RP-Malaysia veterans football tourney reels off

THE Philippines-Malaysia Veterans Football Tournament 2009 kicks off Saturday at the Panaad Sports and Recreational Park field with four sides seeing action in this inaugural event.
The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) in partnership with the Executive Village Football Club headed by businessman Rafael Lizares, and co-hosted by Bacolod United Football Club and Real Negrense Football Club organizes the event.

The event kicks off at 8 a.m. Saturday with simple opening rites followed by the opening match at 8:30 a.m. between Bacolod United FC and Real Negrense FC.
At 9:15 a.m., Erco football Club of Cebu takes on the visiting Malay Mail of Malaysia.
At 10:15 a.m., the participating teams will join in the presentation of jerseys and giving out of balls to local ball clubs coming from the city's public elementary and high schools.
This will be followed by the match between Real Negrense FC and Erco FC of Cebu scheduled at 11 a.m. while at 11:45 a.m., it will be Malay Mail against Bacolod United FC.
The four-team competition resumes on Sunday, Oct. 25, 9:30 a.m., with Real Negrense scheduled to clash against Malay Mail followed by the 10:15 match between BUFC and Erco Cebu FC.
At 11 a.m. Sunday, the participating teams together with tournament organizers will have lunch at the Hinobaan House at Panaad and at 2:30 p.m., it will be the battle for third and fourth places followed by the championship match scheduled at 3:30 p.m.
Organizers led by PFF general secretary Cyril Dofitas and PFF grassroots committee chairman Edward Magallona said the event is just a prelude to bigger things to come starting with next year's 40-above tournament which will again be staged here at the Panaad venue.
All matches in this two-day event are open to the public for free. (HCV)

2009 Villa Valderrama 9-Aside bootfest 1st round ends Sunday

THE ongoing 2009 Villa Valderrama 9-aside football tournament which kicked off last September 27 will end its first round hostilities Oct. 25.
In line with this is the two scheduled matches-at 3 p.m. between Talisay and Dynamic, followed at 4:10 by the match between Ceres and defending champion Trimaxi.

This was decided during a meeting last Thursday among team representatives and presided by tournament director Ricky Yanson, assisted by tournament manager Ramon Janeo held at Chicken House-Lacson.
Due to a conflict in the schedule of Real Negrense, which is seeing action in the two-day Philippines-Malaysia Veterans Football Tournament Saturday at the Panaad field, the schedule between Real Negrense and LBFC was rescheduled to a later date as agreed upon by team representatives from both squads.
The second round of hostilities is scheduled to kick off on November 5 and will end on November 29, while the semi-finals are scheduled on December 6 and the finals on Dec. 13.
Going to Sunday's schedule, the team standings in this six-team competition showed Dynamic on top with 3 wins and 1 draw, followed by Talisay with 2 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw; and Ceres with 2 wins and 2 losses.
The rest of the standings showed Real Negrense with 1 win, 1 draw and 2 losses; Trimaxi with 1 win, 2 draws and 1 loss; and LBFC with 1 draw and 3 losses. (HCV)

You have to continually punish yourself for your love of the sport.
The only difference is, in running, you know that you’d eventually reach your goal before you die.

In football, you’d probably die first of thirst or of fatigue before you get 100 kilometers near your goal.
I really don’t know what Philippine Football Federation president Mari Martinez is doing but whatever it is, he’s doing it badly.
Consider the massacre he put the Philippine Boys’ 16-Under team into in the Group E qualifiers for the AFC Championships.

Futsal marathon

group of futsal enthusiasts will be holding a 12-hour marathon game to raise funds for a village in La Union which was destroyed by typhoon ‘Pepeng’.“The proceeds of this futsal marathon will all go to the villagers in Barangay Sta. Lucia Aringay, La Union whose houses were swept away by the floods caused by typhoon ‘Pepeng’," said former RP futsal coach Manny Batumbacal of irokphilippines during Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association forum in Manila.Batumbacal, now working as the University of Asia and the Pacific physical director, revealed that players who will take part in the game will be donating P350 to the cause.The marathon game will be played on Saturday, Oct. 24, starting at 9:30 a.m. and will run until 9:30 p.m.Batumbacal said that proceeds from the event will go to the rehabilitation of Barangay Sta. RP-Malaysia veterans’ football tourney set

ANOTHER regional football event is slated at the Panaad Sports & Recreational Park pitch in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City on October 23-25, 2009.
The event is organized by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF), in partnership with the Executive Village Football Club headed by businessman Rafael ‘Junie’ Lizares and co-hosted by Bacolod United Football Club and Real Negrense Football Club.

Billed as the Philippines-Malaysia Veterans Football tournament 2009, the three-day event features the visiting Malay Mail of Malaysia, ERCO Football Club of Cebu City and the two Negros-based sides Bacolod United Football Club and Real Negrense Football Club.
Malay Mail, owned by sports journalist Tony Mariadas, is scheduled to arrive at 4 p.m. Friday, according to tournament coordinator Warren Concepcion who also said the event is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, October 24, 8 a.m. with simple opening ceremonies to be followed at 8:30 a.m. by the opening match between Bacolod United FC and Real Negrense FC.
At 9:15 a.m. it will be the turn of ERCO FC of Cebu to tangle against Malay Mail of Malaysia.
At 10:15 a.m., the participating teams join in the presentation of jerseys and giving out of balls to local ball clubs from selected public elementary and high school ball clubs, to be followed at 11 a.m. by the match between Real Negrense FC and ERCO FC of Cebu.
At 11:45 a.m., it will be Malay Mail against Bacolod United FC.
On Sunday, October 25, at 9:30 a.m., the tournament resumes with Real Negrense FC taking on Malay Mail followed at 10:15 a.m. by the match between BUFC and ERCO Cebu.
At 11 a.m., the participating teams will have a fellowship lunch at the Hinobaan house at Panaad followed by the battle for third and fourth places at 2:30 p.m. and the championship match at 3:30 p.m.
PFF general secretary Cyril Dofitas said the tournament is “only serves as a prelude to bigger regional events among veteran football clubs in the Southeast Asian region starting with the staging next year of a 40-above tournament also at the Panaad venue which is already on the planning stage.
The team managers’ meeting is scheduled on October 23, 4 p.m. at Luxur Place.
All matches in this event will be open to the public for free.

DEFENDING champion West Negros University nailed its 7th straight NOPSSCEA men’s football title last Monday at the Panaad Sports and Recreational Park pitch in Barangay Mansilingan when it defeated arch rival University of St. La Salle, 4-2. Scoring for the Norman Fegidero Jr. mentored Wesnecans were James Braga and Lemuel Unabia with 1 apiece and Gino Palomo with 2 goals.

WNU actually lost, 4-2, also to USLS in their previous encounter, while they also nipped University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, 1-0, last Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Bacolod City National High School pitch courtesy of the lone goal by former RP team campaigner Joeven Bedic. The Wesnecans are currently preparing for their campaign in the 2009 National University Games in Iloilo City to be hosted by Central Philippine University on October 24-30. The team leaves for the UniGames this Friday, Fegidero told Sun.Star Bacolod in a telephone interview yesterday. The Wesnecans will be missing the services of several standouts in the team who helped in their UniGames campaign last year, among them being former RP team midfielder Robert Cañedo and Carlo Tacusalme who already served out their playing years.

Philippines withdrew from Asian Indoor Games futsal ?

Nhan Dan – The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) has decided not to take part in the third Asian Indoor Games (AIG 3) due to the continuous interference made by the Philippine Sports Committee (PSC) in POC’s works.
J. Camacho, head of the Philippine Sports Delegation said that the PSC had not respected the POC’s legitimate rights.
Initially, the POC proposed to send 160 athletes taking part in the AIG 3, but PSC only agreed to send around 50 athletes who would compete in seven events.

An inspired second half display boosted multititled Kaya-Digiprint to a 3-0 blanking of Nomads-Aloha Board Sports at the start of the United Football League LBC Cup last night at the Nomads pitch in Merville, Parañaque.Rewarded for their pressure, the Kaya booters, with skipper Aly Borromeo pulling the strings at midfield, struck three goals in a span of seven minutes to finally put the game away.Sudanese striker Izzeldin El-Habbib scored two goals, while Alex Anselmussio added another for Kaya, which couldn’t make the most of its opportunities early on.Denied twice by the crossbar in the first half, El-Habbib made sure there was no letdown in the 77th minute when he beat two defenders before slotting the ball past Nomads keeper Jeff Blake.El-Habbib doubled the lead six minutes later, ghosting into the area before firing home a right-footed shot from just inside the box.
Anselmussio rounded out the scoring, his shot ricocheting off a defender and catching Blake flatfooted anew six minutes from time.“The team was inspired because of the good crowd,” Borromeo said. “We didn’t have a natural winger that’s why we struggled in the attacking third in the first half. But when we got the first goal, I knew we would be okay.”Despite being on the backfoot for most of the first half, Nomads almost took the lead through Steve Borrill only for Kenneth Anychie to make a terrific save with his right leg.Kaya had 13 shots on goal and enjoyed the lion’s share of possession with Borromeo, who plays at central defense when he dons the country’s colors in international tournaments, proving influential at midfield.Nomads listed national team standouts Phil and James Younghusband in its lineup but the intriguing showdown between them and Borromeo failed to materialize as the Filipino-British brothers arrived late for the game.Phil later told the Inquirer they have not committed to play for Nomads in the 16-team corporate backed tournament, where teams from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, clubs of expatriates and schools, are also seeing action.
