Neg. Occ. to launch futsal tourney next month

The province of Negros Occidental alongside Visayas Football League (VFL) will soon launch a province-wide futsal tournament.
This was disclosed by Rafael “Juny” Lizares Jr., VFL president, saying, “We have long been talking about futsal as part of the football development program in the province.”
“It’s because when it rains, the fields turn unplayable, thus many kids need some place to play on.  Other countries have already started futsal hence, to have a faster development of our young players, we have decided to start promoting the game here in Negros (Occidental),” Lizares said.
Lizares also stressed that they are happy that Star Sports, a Korean sports equipment supplier, agreed to be a partner in staging this upcoming tournament.
“This first one is just a short one, but we are looking forward to hold a province-wide tournament in the future. VFL is ready anytime when our coaches and team managers are ready for the tournament,” he added.
Meanwhile, last Saturday, a workshop for futsal which included coaches’ training and refereeing was conducted at the Luxur Place.
“We need this activity to ensure that our coaches and officiating officials are ready for futsal,” the VFL head said.

1st SJFC-Monsignor’s futsal tourney slated Feb. 9-10

With the continuous popularity of football in the local scene, the 1st St. John’s Football Club-Monsignor’s Cup Futsal Tournament is slated February 9-10 at the SJI’s Msgr. John B. Liu Activity Center in Bacolod City.


Among the teams participating in this tournament are the University of St. La Salle-Integrated School, St. Scholastica’s Academy, Trinity Christian School, West Negros University, Don Bosco Technical Institute, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, and host-SJI.

The two-day tournament, spearheaded by SJFC and SJI, is sanctioned by the Negros Occidental Private School Sports, Cultural and Educational Association and the Negros Occidental Football Association./

Army Football Club champs in 1st Globe Futsal Invitational Cup.

 The Philippine Army Football Club emerged as champions in the 1^st Futsal Invitation Club organized by Globe Telecom as part of the telco’s sports development advocacy program that supports budding sports teams and sporting events. The Army Football Club won over the Kaya Futbol Club with a score of 5 – 2 led by Sgt. Rick Cain, with the last 3 points made within the last 2 minutes of the game. Founded in the 1960s under the management of the Philippine Army Special Services Unit, the Army Football Club produced a number of Futsal stars such as Roel Gener, Nestorio Margarse Jr., and Eduardo Sacapaño. Twenty-four football teams which included teams from the United Football League such as Green Archers United Globe Football Club and Division 1 Champions Global Football Club participated in the first offseason football event held at the Village Sports Club in Paranaque.

UNIVERSITY of San Carlos Ladies Football Team will join the Philippine National Games Futsal tournament from May 26 to June 3 in Dumaguete.

It will be the first time for the team to participate in the national sports meet where they will face squads from Manila, Iloilo Dumaguete and Bacolod.

USC is one of the top women clubs and has won the Thirsty Cup, CIS Cup and Bro Cup.

There is still no final lineup for the squad but they will be reinforced by four players from San Roque Football Club.

However, while the USC team is gearing up for the event, the Cebu City Sports Commission is pressed fo time in the selection of players.

“Last Friday lang sad nila nadawat ang invitation and we will just try if we can still process their papers so they will be included in the budget,” said Brando Velasquez of CCSC.

Coaches of the different sports events were advised to submit their lineup of players for evaluation.

Though some may be able to submit the list, others who are competing in the Palaro Pambansa in Pangasinan will only be able to give the list after the culmination of the weeklong sportsfest.

Futsal, baseball miss SEA Games deadline

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine Olympic Committee could face sanction from the Indonesia Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee once futsal and baseball, which both confirmed their participation, decide to skip the Games.

Philippine deputy chef de mission Romeo Magat and the country’s SEA Games secretariat waited way past office hours Thursday for futsal and baseball officials to make the payment for the participation of their athletes in the Nov. 11 to 22 meet but nobody came.

Futsal entered its men’s and women’s teams of 12 players each while baseball planned to bring a 22-man squad.

The athletes of both sports were among the 110 private-sponsored campaigners and 21 officials for whom the POC extended the courtesy of stretching the deadline yesterday so they could join the already approved roster of 424 athletes and 140 officials to be funded by the Philippine Sports Commission.

“They (baseball and futsal) begged to be included and yet they didn’t show up when we asked for the payment,” said Magat.

Sponsors for futsal and baseball need to cough up P75,000 to P80,000 for each athlete for the duration of the Games.

“Their noncompliance would force us to remove them,” said Magat. “But that’s not the problem. We’ll be penalized (by the SEA Games organizers) since they’re already considered as official entries.”

The POC had already paid the airline bookings of these athletes and officials.

Except for futsal and baseball, Magat said private backers of softball (17), bridge (13), sports climbing (2), judo (3), fencing (3), badminton (3), athletics (2), gymnastics (2), golf (2) and cycling (1) have already complied with the requirements.

Bahadoran stars as PH futsal squad shutsout Black Knights FC

MANILA, Philippines—Displaying fine footwork and sheer speed, the Philippine men’s futsal squad blanked visiting Black Knights FC from Australia, 3-0, in friendly match Monday at the Ninoy Aquino stadium.

Fil-Iranian Misagh Bahadoran, who is also a member of the national football team, starred in the victory for his relentless attacks, for which he was rewarded in the 39th minute.

After close misses, Bahadoran finally connected on a free kick to double the lead, 2-0, even as he assisted Eddie Mallari in the ninth minute with a slick pass for the opening point.

In the 43rd minute, Sajad Khodarami blizted all the way for the country’s final goal.

National team head coach Esmael Sedigh, though, felt the squad—known as the Philippine Eagles—could have scored at least 7-8 goals with the way they played.

The Philippines, a potent mix of locals and Fil-foreigners, could have padded onto the lead with its countless attempts but lacked consistency in finishing.

Keeper Francis Paranpan also stood his ground in the face of the Black Knights’ wave of attacks with a brilliant save after another.

One of Paranpan’s notable saves was when he thwarted a stunning header by Australia’s Mitomo Somehara early in the match.

The friendly match is part of the squad’s build-up for the 2011 Southeast Asian Games in November.

Earlier, the Philippine women’s futsal team also shut out the WNCAA All-Stars in an exhibition match with the same score.

Jocelyn Guico, Richelle Placencio and Honey Thomason filled the score sheet for the Philippine side.

Rising Sun beats sister team Burning Sun to rule Futsal Cup; Chico United wins women’s title

RISING Sun and Chico United ruled the Cebu leg of the Philippine Futsal Cup Winners Cup yesterday at Metrosports,Lahug.


The all-Japanese team Rising Sun beat sister team Burning Sun, 5-3, on penalties to rule the men’s division, while the Cagayan de Oro-based Chico United overpowered Don Bosco Football Club, 3-1, to rule the women’s open.


Both teams qualified to the national finals in November where they will face winners of the other legs.


However, Rising Sun member Hayato Ayabe said they may not be able to send their team to the national finals because of lack of funds and will instead form a selection team of Cebu-based players, to be led by the champion team, for the nationals.


In the elimination round, despite not having a designated goalkeeper, Rising Sun finished undefeated with a 3-1 win over Boys Home and a 6-1 rout over Joker’s Arms.


On the other hand, the Burning Sun, which like the Rising Sun are manned by players of the Japanese-owned Crazy Horse Club, beat Cebu Eagles, 3-1, and LO, 7-1.


The seventh leg of the year-long futsal tournament gathered 12 teams in the men’s division, including new teams LO, NCR and Homeboys, manned mostly by players from the BPO industry, and six teams in the women’s.


For this tournament, local organizer Chris Oon modified the rules to avoid automatic elimination for the lowest ranked teams in the group.

All the teams who finished at the bottom played in a plate semis, which were considered wildcard matches.

Oon also encouraged the BPO teams to join the men’s open 11-a-side tournaments aside from the futsal tournament to boost their team.

“It would be a good experience for them to play with the other teams,” said Oon, who is also planning to organize a BPO football tournament.

Cebu to host Futsal Cup

CEBU will host the Visayas leg of the first Philippine Futsal Cup Winners Cup on Aug. 27 at Metrosports.


It will be the seventh of the 10-leg nationwide Futsal tournament. It started last January in Manila and the second leg was held two weeks ago in Davao.


The event is organized by the Philippine Futsal Association Inc., which aims to increase awareness for Futsal and bring the sport closer to Filipinos.


A total of six teams have already enlisted in the women’s category while 12 have confirmed for the men’s open. The teams will play in single-round robin eliminations to determine the semifinalists.

PFL takes futsal to greater heights

ANILA—The Philippine Futsal League is already a testament that futsal is one of the fastest rising sports in the country, but its organizers hope to take the league a step higher.
Founded by Iranian born coach Esmaeil Sedigh of the Philippine national team, the PFL—like any other league trying to establish its name—started from scratch before carving futsal into the local sporting world’s consciousness.
“We really had to start from somewhere before anything else,” said Sedigh, a former first division U21 football player in Iran.
“We’re (Philippines) one of the countries who have leagues for futsal, not all countries have one,” added Sedigh, who first became as an assistant coach in 2005 for the country’s national squad before being tapped as head coach two years after.
Sedigh noticed the potential of Filipinos to excel internationally in this fast-paced sport, which prompted him to conceptualize the PFL. How good can Filipinos be in the sport? The country’s men’s futsal team has risen to No. 88 in the world and Sedigh doesn’t see the climb stopping anytime soon.
“Before, we had problems scouting players. We had to go to provinces and different schools. We just had a hard time,” Sedigh recalled.
The PFL solved that problem. The league flushed players out of hiding and gave them a venue to showcase their skills. Now, nearly the entire women’s national futsal team was discovered in the PFL.

Pasargad, Pars FC dominate second week of Philippine Futsal League

MANILA—An exhibition match and 10 exciting league games marked the second Sunday of the highly anticipated 3rd Philippine Futsal League.
Group C powerhouse Pars FC, powered by players from Futsal world heavyweight Iran, outclassed Legazpi FC, 21-3, in a whole-day event at the Rizal memorial Coliseum.
This as Mohammadpour Hamid, one of the top players for Pars FC, was sent off after a red card.

In Group D, Atelier FC eked past PNU, 7-6, while a superior Pasargad squad swamped Eagles United, 24-1.
As a treat to fans and players of the league, an exhinbition match was held between Iranian squad Takhte Jamshid Lions and the Brazilian Boleiros FC, wit the Iranians beating the Brazilians, 6-4.

More Group C games took place in the afternoon fixtures, with a re-energized Legazpi FC recovering from the shellacking they received earlier in the day to pip the Futkaleros, 8-6, leaning on an early offensive to nail their first win.
Pars FC cornered a second victory, running down Gentleman’s Club, 9-6, to cap the day’s hostilities.
Meanwhile, Pars FC standout Manie Mehran continued to lead the league in goals, collecting 9 so far. Teammate Hamid, despite his ejection Sunday, is at second place with eight goals. Pasargad’s Khodarami Sajad has 6 goals to rank third in the tournament.

The Philippine Futsal League continues its 3rd season August 21 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. In an effort to promote the sport, an exciting, skill-heavy and indoor version of football, organizers have opened admission for free.
Football fans can catch fast-paced goal-scoring action and even spot current and future Azkals in action.

Futsal final set Sunday

IT has all come down to this. The top eight squads in the men’s division and the best four teams in the women’s side -- all for one coveted title and a spot to the National Finals.


With this, the stage is set for the knockout phase of the exciting PFC Cup Winners Cup Futsal-Davao Leg on Sunday at the NCCC Mall Activity Area here where the action is expected to be fierce.


The quarterfinal stage begins with an interesting battle between two sister squads but for sure, there will be no love from the opening whistle between Group A top qualifier Metro TMS and Group C no. 2 S and G Ventures as they seek for the first ticket to the semis. The other match-ups will pit surprise package Lupon United, the topnotcher in Group C, against Group D no. 2 Philippine Rabbies, Group B top qualifier Hooligans against Group D no. 2 Black Knights, and Group D no.1 Malita FC against Group B no. 2 Alia Orange FC.


The survivors of the quarterfinals advance to the semifinals where the winners eventually clash in the winner-take-all finals of the tournament organized by the Philippine Futsal Clubs in cooperation with Bravetower Promotions, City Government of Davao, Phoenix Petroleum, Sun Cellular, NCCC Mall and Futsal de Davao.

2012 AFC Futsal Championship qualifiers

Kuala Lumpur: AFC has announced the participating teams and format of competition for the Qualifying Round of the AFC Futsal Championship UAE 2012.

The Qualifying Round will be held in 2011 by zones (East, West, South and Central and Asean) and the top three finishing teams from each zone will advance to the final round. Further details relating to this will be announced soon.
