Japan dominated the tie at the Prince Mohammad International Stadium in Zarqa City but were frustrated by a resolute Philippines defence.Philippines however, finally caved in and it came just before the half-time break with Yutaka Michiwaki doing the damage.

Philippines, to their credit, tried to find their way back into the tie but forward Homare Tokuda sealed the victory for Japan with his 85th minute goal.
