Philippines Men’s Under-22 In AFF U22 Championship 2019

The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) has called up 23 players that comprise the squad for the Philippine Under-22 team that will compete in the AFF U22 Championship 2019 to be held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from 17-26 February 2019.
The Philippines are in Group A together with Vietnam, Thailand, and Timor Leste.
The players called up come primarily from the university teams that participate in either the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) or the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) with a few coming from overseas based teams and Philippine professional club teams.
The head coach is Salvador Salvacion assisted by Coaches Andres Gonzales, Randolfo Clarino, Christopher Pedimonte, and Ralph Datoy. The team had training sessions and played against local clubs as build-up for the tournament.
The Under-22 team will be also form part of the Philippines team for the AFC U23 Championship 2020 Qualifiers this March in Malaysia and hopefully the squad for the 30th Southeast Asian Games which will be held this November in Manila.
“We wish the Philippines Men’s Under-22 team the best of luck as they compete in the AFF U22 Championship 2019 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia,” said PFF general secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes. “We hope that the players can maximize their full potential during the competition. Joining the tournament is part of the players’ preparations for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games later this year.”
The team left for Cambodia today Friday 15 February 2019.

  2. I know it's a big honor to represent your country in the international stage but time and again PFF never prepared our youth teams the way other countries are doing. It's hard to be a patriot when you know you are just there to defend every game and the only attack in the making is counter that's it. More on defensive in tactical approach is much easier than attacking play as combinations are hard to master and would take some longer time to make the whole team understand and that is not feasible for only a week of preparation. It is one of the reasons that DLSU, FEU, UE and UST didn't send their best players to the PFF training camp when called upon due to the fact that they will be massacred and will become a laughing stock in Southeast Asia. It is Palami's fault because U22/23 and Azkals are under his management. Too much focus on the senior team brought the Youth teams performance down for many years. He is only good in front of the interview but he doesn't walk the talk. He speaks of football resurgence since the Miracle of Hanoi but until now our Youth teams lask training and exposure in the international scene. Palami's only band aid solution is to get as many Foreign born pinoys to play for flag and country. He doesn't care about the local homegrowns, he just want to be famous and be known as the saviour of Philippine Football.

    2. The problem is the PFF has no youth program. Whenever there is an upcoming tournament, they hold tryouts. There should be no tryouts! PFF must select the players. Players that developed from Under 14s and worked their way up to the under 18s and 23s.

    3. What does Palami have anything to do with the youth teams? He is responsible for the senior team, not the youth team. It is the PFF technical team director who should be responsible for arranging the youth team's preparation and he is not doing his job.

  3. The PFF is compartmentalized. Senior team management is totally different from the youth teams so you can't really blame Palami with what is going on with the youth teams. I wonder why no one is pointing the fingers at the PFF President Araneta. He is responsible for what is going througout the the organization and is ultimately responsible for the inadequacies of the national youth team technical director who arranges this preparations.
