BINAN--A blistering first half was enough for Stallion Laguna to hold off JPV Marikina, 3-2, in the first game of PFL Saturday at the Binan Football Stadium.
Playing sans head coach Ernie Nierras as he is completing his AFC coaching course this weekend, Laguna survived a second half scare from Marikina as interim coach Richard Leyble scored a win in his head coaching debut.
Laguna went 2-0 up in a three-minute stretch with Yannick Tuason opening the scoring in the 14th minute and Carlo Polli doubling the lead in the 17th.
Franco Dela Torre made the match exciting as he gave Marikina its first goal of the match in the 30th minute.
Terrence Linatoc, however, restored order with a 44th minute strike for the 3-1 count.
In the 58th minute, Marikina was awarded a penalty due to a handball inside the box, and Keigo Moriyasu did not disappoint by drilling in the goal.
However, Marikina failed to capitalize on the shot to inch closer as Laguna became even more aggressive down the stretch.
Laguna is now on 21 points after 17 matches, three points below Davao, which is hosting Negros as of posting, for third place.
Marikina remained in fifth place with 14 points.
