BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (11 July 2014) – The Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy 2014 has been confirmed for 9-23 August where this year, ten teams will be taking part with the exception of Indonesia who has yet to give their final word.
The biennial championship is being organized by Brunei’s Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports (MCYS) and the National FA of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD).
“Indonesia are very important as we all know that they are the finalist of the tournament two years ago, but we are not sure whether they will take part in the HBT this year – but we will find out in the next few days,” said MCYS Permanent Secretary Dato Paduka Mohd Hamid Mohd Jaafar.
“The tournament will be sanctioned by the AFF (Asean Football Federation) and we and NFABD have consulted the AFF for the best time to organise this tournament.”
Matches will be played at three venues – the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, the Balapan Track and Field at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex and the Berakas Sports Complex.
At the last tournament in 2012, organisers spent nearly BND 1.7 million (USD 1.4 million).
Draw ceremony for the event will be held tomorrow.
