AFTER an impressive stint at the Festival of Football in San Carlos City, the Cebu Team is getting ready to face another battle in Dipolog City.
The team will compete in the Governor Y. Uy tournament and will face select squads from around the country including the national team on May 30 and 31.
Cebu Team’s coach, Totot Colina, said that their practices are not yet in full blast since some of the members are still playing for their mother clubs in San Carlos City.
“As for now, we are focused on what system we would use during the game,” he added.
Four of the team members who were already part of the national team decided to play for Cebu for this tournament.
Meanwhile, nine of Cebu Team’s players were picked by the national team coaches during the Festival of Football in San Carlos City.
Don Bosco’s Tristan Karl Enad, Vince Kristi Ybanez, Charles Clarence Unabia, Yuan Rena, Vincent Paul Mapula, Froi Custado and Josh Rupert Asignar, Hijas de Jesus’ Louie Arreglo and Ateneo de Cebu’s Jacob Braun were chosen to join the boys under-13 national training pool.
However the schedule for AFC’s tournament is not yet final and the players are also waiting for the schedule of the training pool.
The Cebu Team is part of the grassroots program of the Cebu Football Associations and is targeted to be a long-term program together with the coaches, parents and sponsors.
The players are composed of students from different schools who joined rigorous training to become one of Cebu’s best football team.
“We are looking for ways to fund the program so it can truly run for the next three to five years,” said Dr. Alvin Roxas, one of the parent coordinators. “We are aiming for the U17, which is 5 years from now. We want to have a very strong U17.” (Alvie Marie Yabo, CNU Comm. Intern)
