Team Socceroo Secures 1st Division Status For Next Season

May 11 Results:
Team Socceroo 6-2 Pasargad
Manila Jeepney 1-1 Philippine Air Force
Forza 5-2 Nomads

In the last 1st Division match of May, Team Socceroo drubbed Pasargad 6-2 to secure its place in the UFL’s top tier next season. Powered by a hat-trick from star striker Lee Jeong Woo, last year’s 2nd Division champions doomed its opponents to the lower division in brilliant style.
With its 1st Division life on the line, Pasargad got off to the worst possible start on Sunday night at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig City. Within six minutes, Lee had Socceroo up by two goals with back-to-back strikes. The South Korean hadn’t been on the scoresheet since April 8, when he scored from the penalty spot against the same opponents.
Michael Ebare got one back in the 34th minute, but Kennedy Uzoka restored the two-goal advantage almost immediately after. By half-time Seung Yeon Min had made it a 4-1 scoreline. Lee’s third, and a Diego Barrera strike put the emphasis on a momentous win for Socceroo. Hamed Fateh scored the other goal for Pasargad.
1st Division matches resume on June 3, after the Philippine National Team’s campaign in the AFC Challenge Cup in Maldives.
Earlier in the day, Manila Jeepney and Philippine Air Force played out a 1-1 draw to keep the fight for promtion from the 2nd Division extremely tight, with still five matches to play. Jake Morallo opened the scoring 18 minutes into the game, with Jimmy Vergara Jr., firing the Armed Forces side back level just before the break.
The result puts Manila Jeepney atop the 2nd Division momentarily with 37 points, with Ceres-La Salle, who have played two games less, just a point behind. With the top two teams earning promotion into next year’s 1st Division, Laos (32 points) and Air Force (33 points) are still firmly in the hunt.
