Iloilo keeps semis hopes alive in PFF Suzuki Nat’l U23 Cup

Iloilo beat Baguio-Benguet, 1-0, yesterday to stay on track in its title bid for the Philippine Football Federation Suzuki Men’s National U23 Championship in Dumaguete City.
After dropping its first game against North Cotabato, 0-2, the Ilonggos bounced back with back-to-back wins against Iligan on Tuesday and Baguio yesterday to remain in contention for the last semifinals seat in Bracket A.
Cebu presently occupies the No. 1 spots in the team standings in Bracket A after registering rousing victories against North Cotabato and Iligan, and a draw against Baguio.
In yesterday’s match against Illigan, Paul John Acuerdo saved the day for the Ilonggos as he booted in the winning goal in 43rd minute.
Baguio, known for its last minute heroics and an equally formidable lineup, failed to equalize as the time expired.
Iloilo’s chances of barging into the semifinals hinge on a victory against Cebu tomorrow and on the outcome of the match between Cotabato and Baguio.
Both Iloilo and Cotabato teams carry a 2-1-0 win-loss-draw record going into tomorrow’s final schedule in Bracket A. Cebu is the only undefeated team in the Bracket.
The top two teams in Bracket A will face NOFA Ceres and Davao in the crossover semifinals.
Ceres will face the No. 2 in Bracket A while Davao will battle against the No. 1 team.

Semifinals schedule is set on May 28 in Dumaguete City.*NAB
