Favorites rout foes in Interclub

THE favorites started out strong in the first day of the 13th Cebu Interclub Football Tournament yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center and Aboitiz Sports Field.
Samba FC, Hiroshi FC and Cebu Amateur Football Cup won in Group B, while Cebu Queen City United and Erco FC won in Group A of the men’s open.
Samba FC, backed by Southwestern University’s foreign students, came back from two goals down to beat Mactan Camellanz United, 4-2.
Jet Michael Araujo and Kenny John Sepe scored for Mactan Camellanz United in the 12th and 18th minutes but Samba FC fought back.
Cedric Tumbo got the first goal in the 19th minute and Khalif Mohammed got the equalizer in the 41st before Musa Jibrin scored in the 40th and 42nd minutes for the comeback win.
Defending champion Hiroshi FC survived the challenge from the bulky booters of University of Cebu- Nigeria, 3-0, in the second match.
Folk Hanes Anthony, who scored the team’s two goals in the 38th and 51st minutes, is among the eight varsity players from University of San Carlos who joined the team as well as national team keeper Eduard Sacapaño. Rodni Gandionco scored the final goal in the 75th minute.
In the third game, Erco FC beat Cebu-Korea, 7-3.
Neri Mole had four goals in the 5th, 29th, 53rd and 80th minutes, James Jhovan Bacus had two, while Juvert Alcover had one.
But it was Cebu Queen City United that had the most impressive win, thrashing Danao FC, 9-0.
Samson Olaniyi had four goals and Junard Aguilar had a hat trick in the onesided win.
In the women’s division, the University of San Carlos blanked Samba Girls, 10-0, and Sacred Heart Ateneo de Cebu routed CTU FC, 4-0.
In the 11-under, Canduman FC beat Tabor Hill, 2-0, SHS-AdC defeated USC-Bed, 5-0, Cebu Dynamo beat Warshockz Famball, 1-0, and Lahug Elementary School demolished Phoenix FC, 7-0.
