The second match in the American training tour of the Philippine national men’s football team is in jeopardy after the US Virgin Islands squad did not show up for the event, according to the event’s media officer Dennis Guillermo.
The Azkals were set to face the US Virgin Islands on Friday (Saturday morning Manila time) in Indianapolis, Indiana.
But members of the team did not get on flights originally booked for them by organizers. The team supposedly asked the Philippine Football Federation and the promoters to shoulder the cost of a charter flight for the team, a demand which was refused.
Match promoters are still trying to find an alternative opponent for the Azkals, who are using the training tour to prepare for the 2012 ASEAN Football Federation Suzuki Cup. The Philippine team succumbed in the first stop of the tour to the American semi-pro side Chicago Inferno, 3-1, last Saturday (Sunday in Manila).
