Cebu Football - Footballers double training for Palaro

By Edri K. Aznar

THE Central Visayas secondary football squad is working double time as the team holds practice sessions in the Holy Week for the Palarong Pambansa on April 11 in Tarlac.

The Central Visayas football team, which is composed of players from Paref-Springdale and Abellana National School, will hold practice today and this Saturday under coach Mario Ceniza.

Even if the team had insufficient practice sessions because of the hectic schedule of the players Ceniza believes the team is on the right track, “Our preparation (yesterday) was okay. We had endurance test and the result was okay so far,” said Ceniza. “The team is on the right track in the endurance training but we need to improve on the blending of the players.”

The Central Visayas squad hasn’t had an exhibition match since winning, 2-0, against Negros Oriental in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association tournament last February in Lilo-an.

Ceniza is hoping that they could get at least one practice game in Cebu before leaving for Tarlac on Monday.

“As of this stage, I can’t assess their teamwork not until they have a practice game,” he said.

Most of the players of the squad have never played in the Palarong Pambansa level but Ceniza is confident that the team won’t have jitters when they face the other teams.

“They are used to playing in the men’s open so I think they will fare well, ” said Ceniza.

This is the first time Ceniza will be in the Palarong Pambansa after winning the silver medal in Palawan two years ago.
