CEBU, Philippines - The cast is almost complete for the 10th Cebu Amateur Football Club (CAFC) National Inter-Club Football Cup except in the girls division as only Sacred Heart School has confirmed its participation in the week-long event set from April 24 to May 2 at different venues here.
Sacred Heart School will play in the girls 17 category of Cebu’s biggest football tournament this summer.
CAFC officials led by Glenn Quisido are egging on the young female booters to come and join the action.
“We don’t want this to be just for the boys. Football is for boys and girls.There are several girls team in football here so we are also including them. Pero ambot, ngano nga wa pa man sila nagpa-register ron,” said Quisido during the event’s launching the other night at Casino Español de Cebu.
Last year, only three female teams braved the challenge.
On the other hand, all champions in each of the male category are already dead set to defend their titles except for Don Bosco’s players 10 squad.
DBTC’s coaching staff are quite busy right now with their preparations for the Palarong Pambansa that is why they are still undecided to field in a team for the players 10 bracket.
Among the six classes in the boys division, the boys 14 has the most number of entries with 10.
The men’s open has seven teams led by the defending champion Army’s 53rd Engineering Brigade, the men’s 38-above with five, boys 12 with six and the players 10 with four, so far.
Out of the confirmed participants, two are from other areas - Xavier School of Manila and Ormoc’s under-14 squad.
From March 15, the organizers moved the deadline for the submission of entries to April 19.

The National Inter-Club serves as a highlight to CAFC’s 20th year of existence.
From merely a group among former varsity players of the University of San Carlos, the club has grown, opening doors to other players interested to join in and compete with them.
After a decade of participating in different local events, CAFC decided to have a tournament of its own and since then a yearly event has been staged under its care.
