The roofing of the Panaad Stadium had been scheduled for repair even before the heavy downpour destroyed its gutters Tuesday night during the AFC Cup match between the Ceres-La Salle FC and the visiting Tampines Rovers FC from Singapore, Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said yesterday.
While the rains at the Panaad inconvenienced the football spectators, the governor said it was a blessing after a long stretch of dry spell.
He said the budget for the repair of the gutters has already been set aside and it was unfortunate that the structure gave way even before the repair work could start.
Hopefully, if Negros Occidental wins the bid for the 2017 Palarong Pambansa hosting, the province will have sufficient funds to repair the Stadium and not just its roof, Marañon said.
