Members of the Ceres- La Salle FC are now in Malaysia for tomorrow's away game against Selangor FA in Group E of the AFC Cup Qualifiers. Game time is set at 8:45 p.m. in Selayang Stadium.
On top of their group with eight points after a rousing 2-1 home victory at the Panaad Stadium over the visiting Tampines Rovers of Singapore two weeks ago, the busmen are in for a tough match as Selangor is expected to go all out to secure a win for the much-need three points.
Tied in the second spot with seven points each, a win for Selangor will greatly improve their chances to advance into the round of 16. Tampines will be playing against winless Sheik Jamal Dhanmondi of Bangladesh in the other Group E match tomorrow.
Ceres is coming off a frustrating loss to Global in the UFL Cup final eight days ago, apparently, with the fatigue catching up on the players.
Earlier, head coach Franklin Muescan said that the final match against Global in the UFL will be part of their preparation for the away game against Selangor.
“It will be a good preparation for us to address our shortcomings especially in the midfield,” Muescan said during the news conference after the match against Tampines.
Muescan admitted that only a point separates them from Tampines and Selangor and they need to keep on winning to advance into the knockout stage.
After tomorrow's match against Selangor, Ceres will be coming home to prepare for their last match in the Group Stage, a home game against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi on May 10, 7 p.m. at the Panaad Stadium.*NAB
