This is the official statement released by Global FC on August 8, 2015, in its entirety.
Today is a sad day for Philippine football. Instead of promoting the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship, the core values upon which this sport is founded, unbridled rivalry and unscrupulous intimidation have frustrated our efforts to strengthen our football community.
Global Football Club stands by the facts. First, that player Satoshi Otomo is unquestionably a Filipino, being born of a Filipino mother. Second, that the document “submitted” was issued by a government agency and was thus presumed genuine, giving the club no reason to question its authenticity. Third, that the case was raised when Otomo was no longer part of the team and never played a single minute in the UFL Cup, casting suspicion on the timing and true motivations behind the filing of the case, and questions on the body’s insistence to find fault in the absence of any legitimate and unimpeachable offense.
Not only were these facts ignored; even the rules of procedure were disregarded in the resolution of this case.
Since 2009, Global FC has been a dynamic and passionate member of the United Football League. More than once, we have tirelessly worked to bring honor to Philippine football not only in the national league, but also on the regional and continental stage. Excellence is what defines our achievements in the past seven years, consistent with our vision to be “the People’s Club” and our enduring commitment to always “play to inspire.” We share nothing but the dream of making world-class Philippine football a reality and the mission of training a new generation of Filipino football professionals.
We owe it to everyone who shares the dream that is Global FC to keep untarnished the name and reputation that we have worked hard to build. For this reason, Global FC will appeal this matter to the Philippine Football Federation, in the hope that the country’s highest football governing body will provide a more impartial, enlightened and fair determination of our case.
Global FC is proud of its achievements, not only of the games we’ve won but also of the matches we have lost. Being a good sport can be hard in the face of defeat. But the maturity and courage to admit that we made bad plays on the pitch is what defines sportsmanship and fair play. Above all, that is what defines a true champion. It is sad to see that instead of realizing this, others choose to sow disunity and conflict, putting self-interest above what would serve the greater good of Philippine football.
In the face of all these challenges, Global FC is confident that we will emerge stronger and even more committed to be your People’s Club. To the Global FC family, let’s play on!
