Smart Club Visayas regionals kick off in Iloilo

ILOILO CITY – The all-Visayas regionals of the Smart Club championships featuring 3 teams and some of the best players in the region kicked off on Tuesday at the Central Philippines University (CPU) football field in Iloilo.

With the last-minute withdrawals of Dumaguete and Bacolod, Stallion Football Club (FC) of Barotac Nuevo, Don Bosco United FC of Cebu, and Laos FC of Leyte were left to battle for 2 slots in the next phase of the inaugural club competitions.

The tournament is sponsored by Smart and organized by Philippine Football Federation (PFF).

The hosts and the Cebuano booters were to collide in the initial match on Tuesday afternoon following simple opening ceremonies graced by PFF president Mariano Araneta Jr., Iloilo Football Association (IFA) President Roceller Sumbillo, and CPU president Dr. Teodoro Robles.

“We would like to thank the city of Iloilo, led by Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, CPU president Robles and IFA president Sumbillo for hosting the Smart Club Visayas regionals,” Araneta, a former national team mainstay and proud product of Barotac Nuevo, said.

“We consider Iloilo a football hotbed in the Visayas so we expect a lot of local football fans to come over to watch and support the tournament,” he added.

While all representatives of all three teams were optimistic about their chances of qualifying for the next round, they admitted that doing so would be far from easy.

“Being the hosts, we like our chances of securing seat in the next stage,” said Stallion FC manager JR Robles, whose charges will be mentored by Ernie Nierras, the acting national women’s coach. “But Leyte and Cebu are pretty strong teams so we will try our best to win.”

    nice start for the ilonggo club! but sad for the club from neg occ! this leg is the most exciting as the local and homegrown players are featured. more exposure and up-to-date training will really develop the football this side of PH. stallion fc and laos fc will face-off each other. poor decision from dumaguete and negros!

    alam naman ng PFF na ongoing ang under-23 Suzuki cup dito sa Bacolod. at yung team Negros, 50% ng team members ang kasali sa club championship.

    itinuloy nila ang club championship sa iloilo and they didn't inform the Negros team the exact date of the said tournament. sino ang nagsabi na nagwithdraw ang Negros team??!!where did they get the information?

    maybe, they are not also informed, kasi pag na inform yung dumaguete, sasali din yun eh..magaling rin yung dumaguete..

    i think the PFF planned not to inform Bacolod and Dumaguete coz they want Iloilo to win the cup, and some of the PFF officials are from iloilo.

    hahaha ganun ba pinagkaisahan ang Negros...sa bagay si Nonong Araneta President ng PFF taga Ilo-Ilo...hindi kasi mananalo ang Ilo-Ilo sa Negros eh...pangalawa lang sila sa U23 at U19...parehong Negros ang nag top sa U23 AT U19...

    dapat sana ang ginawa ng competition head ng PFF is to inform the Negros club team the exact date of the club championship in Iloilo dahil nandito siya sa bacolod a week before because of under-23 suzuki cup at alam niya rin na ang coaching staff at ibang players ay nasa team ng U-23 Negros team. so bakit niya itinuloy ang tournament sa iloilo at saka sinabi pa na nagback-out ang team negros

    ok lang yan...Negros(Bacolod) ang champion sa U23 at Negros(Dumaguete) sa U19 at Ilo-Ilo champion sa Smart Cup...Visayas naman lahat...Cebu na lang kulang...

    Huwag padalos dalos ng mga bintang. Napadalhan po parehong Negros Associations ng invitation. Yung Dumaguete nag back out dahil mga players ng club nila ay mga nagtatrabaho. Di sila pinayagan maka leave para sa tournament ng kaniya kaniyang employers. Tumawag mismo yung NORFA head para sabihin na mag back out sila. Yung NOFA naman po ay di nakapag pasok ng team dahil hindi nainform ang mga club teams ng Sec Gen ng kanilang Association. 2 months before the kick off date napadala ang mga invitation. FYI lang po!

    La guid gali ang mga officers sang NOFA. Pano abi kalayu sa Bacolod sang president ka NOFA. Hambal sa akon ni Ali may team man kuno sila pra sa club championship wla lng sila kabalo sng date... hayyyy!!

    The truth is, Bacolod City football officials has an ongoing feud with the NOFA. Most club tournaments are held in the City with the patriarch' being the Yanson brothers. Mr. Cojuangco oversees the peripheral areas like Bago City where football is on the rise. This has brought about some tension and strain between the 2 factions...

    May team si Charlie Cojuangco yung Union naglalaro sa UFL dti. dapat yun na lang ang nilaban ng Bacolod. sure pasok sa top 8 yun. ang sbi skin ng friend ko frm bacolod dpat dw mag elmnation p sila ng mga clubs within bacolod, san carlos and bago pero d nman daw ntuloy dhil di daw naorganize ng association nila. sayang ganda sna ulit makawatch bcolod v iloilo.

    Matagal na problema dito sa amin yan. Masyado madami epal sa football. nalagyan ng politica ang nofa dahil dami teams dito and dami din magagaling na producto from other towns and cities na hindi nabigyan ng break ba. Mga taga san carlos tingin ng mga from bacolod mga bisaya or udong kaya di masyado napapalaro sa mga leagues dahil sa discrimination. dapat united mga taga occidental negros.

    the only thing that makes me upset ay kung sino ang nagsabi na nagwithdraw daw yung BACOLOD at DUMAGUETE na hindi naman daw talaga totoo.Sino ang nagsabi????? Hindi man lang nila tinawagan yung na kung kailan yung exact date ng game. it was really really UNFAIR.

    ^^upset ka at idadamay mo mga taga iloilo?..i think hindi problema ang communication..nakarating nga mga taga leyte at cebu..marahil sa miscommunication sa FA...pero sayang talaga at wala ang ceres-bacolod...ok lang yan parang sure na ang u-23 mapupunta sa nofa...

    Ay iyot sagad basol ang Iloilo kung ngaa wala kamo kahampang. Wla kamo initiative mag pamangkot haw? Kinahanglan pa gali bubudan kamo antis maghulag? Basola nyo mga opisyales nyo nga wla gahulag indi kay kung cno2x basolon nyo. Dra pa lang daan sa asosasyon nyo damo na problema indi gani mag unite kamo da tanan tapos mamasol pa kamo.
