COLUMBIA Football Club (FC) of Davao City recovered from an opening game loss by crushing Real Marbel FC of Koronadal, 5-0, on Thursday afternoon in the PFF Smart Club Championships Mindanao finals at the Tionko field.
Marlon Demapanag and Allan Rey Fernandez knocked in two goals each to lead scoring for Columbia. Demapanag blasted goals in the 26th and 43rd minutes while Fernandez made goals in the 28th and 60th. Nur Hazzanal Mentang added a goal in the 31st.
Columbia's win came on the heels of its heartbreaking 3-5 loss to Lanofa FC of Iligan City.
Lanofa beat Bric a Brac FC of Pagadian, 1-0, courtesy of Johnrey Lara's penalty kick in the 58th minute.
Lanofa, thus, grabbed the top spot of the team standings with a clean record of two wins, zero draw and zero loss followed by Columbia (1-0-1) in second, Real Marbel (1-0-2) in third and Bric a Brac (0-0-2) in fourth.
Lanofa also booked a seat to the national finals while Columbia had to win over its game against Bric A Brac to also advance.
Match commissioner Percy Guarin earlier told sportswriters that only top teams of the four-team, single round-robin Mindanao finals will enter the national championship.
The Philippine Football Federation organized the tournament sponsored by Smart. The Mindanao finals is hosted by the Davao Football Association (DFA). (MLSA)
