Hiroshi nails third straight win

Men’s Open defending champions Hiroshi Football Club ended its elimination campaign in the 12th Cebu Interclub Football Cup with nine points after winning three of its four matches.

Hiroshi FC clinched its third straight win with a 2-0 blanking of Hijos Del Pueblo yesterday at the football field of the University of San Carlos Technological Center.

Scorers for Hiroshi were Ryan Bordalba and John Paul Arranguez. Both players found the back of the net in the first half of the match.

Hiroshi will have to wait for the rest of the teams to finish their elimination matches to know who will be advancing to the crossover semifinals.

The other match in the category had ERCO FC-PTT posting a 3-1 thrashing of Camella FC.

In the 40 Above, Hiroshi FC hit a snag after its match against ERCO FC ended in a scoreless draw.

San Roque Football Club, on the other hand, gave Queen City United A its second loss in the tournament via a 2-0 outsmarting.

In bracket A of the boys 17, FCIC finally barged into the win column with a 2-1 edging of University of San Carlos North Campus.

In bracket B, Abellana National School (ANS) Pomeroy stretched its win to three with a 2-0 demolition of S.C. Warriors.

ANS Pomeroy currently heads bracket B after winning all three of its matches so far.

In the other match, the Cebu Team routed Mandaue Technical Institute (MTI), 3-0.

Both teams now hold two wins, however, MTI have already lost two matches while Cebu Team still has two games to play.

Solido FC to compete in Butuan bootfest

THE Solido FC booters are set to keep their fiery form when they compete in the 2nd Balangay Football Festival at the Butuan City Sports Complex in Barangay Libertad this weekend.
This was bared by Solido Girls FC team manager Buboy Arrieta in an e-mail to Sun.Star Davao on Wednesday.

It can be recalled that the Julio Orcasitas-coached Solido bagged the two titles in the 8th Del Monte Cup in Bukidnon last month.
They followed it up with another sterling performance in the just-concluded Davao Summerfest 2012 Football Festival where they also swept two crowns.
The team will be bannered by Janna Barcemo, Nina Arrieta, Jhekai Ctla, Nina Yanto, Inah Rosales, Zian Anoya Rivera, Andrea Candari, Jennie Tevar, Cherry Mae Vilchez, Jj Matalam, Gabby del Fierro, Mary Joy Indac and Marice Magdolot.
The bootfest will feature the mixed U8, boys U10, boys U15, girls U17, boys U19, boys U23, women's open, men's open and the 35-up categories.
Some 100 teams from all over Visayas and Mindanao confirmed participation.
Cash prizes, trophies and medals are at stake for the winners. Special awards will also be given for the Best Striker, Best Goalkeeper and the Most Valuable Player in each division.
Hosted by the Butuan-Agusan Norte Football Association (Banfa) under its president and Butuan City vice mayor Law Fortun, the two-day competition is being organized as part of the silver anniversary celebration of the Balangay Festival and part of the grassroots development program of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF).

Limpag: How a wrong attitude can foil NT career

A ONCE promising stint of a player--touted to be our next great hope who would carry the banner when the current stars retire—with the national team has been derailed.
After a start that earned him accolades, he’s on the outside looking in, and if what I was told was true, his attitude has ruined his chances of playing for the flag.

When the initial deliberation for the team was done, a coach, told that the player was not to be included in the lineup, said he wanted him back in the lineup, showing how much he valued his skills.
But during another deliberation, the coach didn’t include the player he originally wanted and was asked, “You don’t want him?”
He shook his head and said, “He’s hopeless.”
And that basically is a damning sentence over a once-promising career with the national team. Sure, he can still play in the pro league, as his talents will surely make him one of the top players, but with the national team?
Unless a change of attitude is made, he’s done. Competition for spots for the national team—even for the training camp—is so fierce that for locals, between an above-average player who works hard and is a team player and a truly gifted one who overvalues himself, the coach goes for the team player.
Aside from locals, players, too, have to compete for spots with those based abroad.
But he’s young, and I hope, he’ll learn that it’s not just his skills on the field that matter, I think only the players with the godlike skills of Lionel Messi can get away with some things and even Messi’s attitude doesn’t disrupt a team (unless, of course, you root for Real Madrid.)
I think, too, those who make the team should learn from this. If your attitude starts to destroy a team, or you have too many distractions, all of these reach team management and these will influence whether you make the squad or not.
CFA. Congratulations are in order for the new officers of the CFA and I wish them well. I agree with all of the positions selected so far, but none the more than with my fellow Sportswriters Association of Cebu members Rico Navarro and Nimrod Quiñones.
As the head of publicity and marketing, Rico knows the ins and outs and is experienced with how to market an event from scratch.
As the head of the sanctions and disciplinary committee, Nimrod will make Severus Snape look tame and I pity the players who has to answer to him.

QCU suspends players

QUEEN City United will have to continue playing in the United Football League Second Division without its key players.
Skipper Jan Michael Flores and Mark Hilay were suspended after they played with mother team Hiroshi FC in the 12th Interclub FC despite orders from the QCU management prohibiting them.

Both Flores and Hilay were players of Hiroshi FC before they were signed by QCU to play in the UFL Cup.
The Queen City management gave the order a week before to avoid conflict of schedule in the tournament but both players still showed up and played for Hiroshi.
The letter said the administration decided to suspend the players for the rest of the season for going against the club’s mandate not to allow UFL players to play in the CAFC National Interclub.
“Dako jud ang impact sa ilang absence but wala mi mabuhat because it was an admin decision,” said QCU head coach Mario Ceniza.
Albert Nankil is expected to take the role as the team’s captain while they are still looking at who can take Hilay’s place at midfield. Ceniza is confident that with his players’ impressive performance in their last match against Diliman, there won’t be any problem. The team defeated Diliman, 4-1.
Both players also accepted the sanction and respected the management’s decision.
“Okay ra kay nakasabot rako sa ilang side. On my part, I cannot miss playing for my mother team. Committed jud ko with Hiroshi, especially since we are defending our title,” said Hilay.
Flores, however, made it clear that should he be made to choose between QCU and Hiroshi, he would pick the latter.
“If papilion ko kay adto ko Hiroshi but kasabot ra pud ko sa ilang side ngano gisuspend mi,” said Flores.
The two are also members of the pioneering team of Hiroshi FC when it started in 2004.
Hiroshi, on the other hand, doesn’t know that there existed a verbal memo between the players and management.
Interclub
Meanwhile, last year’s runner -up Queen City United snatched its needed win to keep its hopes up in the men’s open of the 12th Interclub Football Cup at the University of San Carlos Talamban Field.
They finally stamped their first win against Southwestern University, 4-2, after starting slow in the previous matches.
In its first game, they were defeated by Bracket B leader San Roque Football Club, 1-0, and figured in a draw between Don Bosco United.
Rodney Gandionco powered the team in the early minutes scoring from the corner in the 7th minute. He banked in a long shot outside the penalty area in the 19th minute.
Julius Acre and Baron Lisondra scored the other two goals for Queen City.
In the other men’s open match, Erco FC won its second straight match against Hijos Del Pueblo, 5-1, and is now in second place in Bracket A.
In the Boys 14, Canduman FC routed SJSM/3 Brothers, 6-1, while ANS-Pomeroy edged Los
Amigos, 2-1.
In the Boys 17, Cebu Team silenced DB Razkals, 11-0 while visiting team Ormoc FC crashed USC-NC, 6-0.

Tougher Games Await NFL’s 2nd Conference

 The 2nd Conference of the Negros Football League (NFL) will be tougher as it sets to kick off on Sunday, May 27 at the Ayala North Point football pitch in the Talisay City.
Ceres Football Club Head Coach Norman Fegidero stressed that as they look forward for a grand slam title this conference, he expects a tougher competition from other teams that’s why they will be preparing every game one at a time.
Ceres FC’s archrival Dynamic Builders FC, which lost twice in the finals will be one of the teams to challenge the defending champion.
"Our team will continue to play hard and use our experience to reach the finals again. Our team is composed of veteran players and though we lacked condition but we have the experience. Our team cannot practice thrice a week because our respective works, like some other teams that practice almost everyday. But we will still try to surprise them. We are now the underdog so no more pressure for Dynamic FC," skipper Ali Rojas Go stressed.
Other clubs competing are last conference’s second runner-up Trimaxi-Agro FC, Real Negrense FC, Talisay-Minuluan FC and La Buenas FC.
On the other hand, tournament manager Ramon Janeo said that schedules for the upcoming conference are not yet ready. He will be posting the schedules if things are set, he added.* (JGToga)

Azkals and U22 team will have a 4-team tournament with Global FC and Ceres at Panaad Stadium, Bacolod City on May 26 and 27.


On Saturday (May 26), Azkals will play against Ceres at 4pm while the U22 team will face off with UFL Division 1's Global FC. Winners will face each other in the final while defeated teams will battle for third place on Sunday (May 27).
