Kaya Futbol Club would like to take this opportunity to clarify and inform everyone that the club does not hire or employ any outside agents to invite players for a trial at the club. There are agents that have been forging our letterhead and inviting players to try out for us. Unless you have spoken to the Kaya management or coaching staff directly, any letter of invitation you receive is not from the club. Please be careful and mindful of falsified documents. We also hope that young players in other countries, especially in Ghana, are careful when interacting with these agents who falsify documents.

Moreover, we would also like to warn everyone to be wary of a stranger(s) who is claiming to be a Kaya player or former Kaya player and fabricating a story of being a victim of theft in order to deceive people into giving him money. Again, please be cautious of people who are using Kaya's name for their own self-interest.

Kaya signs new foreign players

Kaya Futbol Club would like to announce more good news as the Kaya family grows bigger with the signing of Australian goalkeeper Matthew Acton, Ghanaian goalkeeper Isaac Annan, and Senegalese striker Robert Lopez Mendy.
 

Matthew Acton, from Thuringowa Central, Australia, played for Olympic FC before joining Kaya. He previously played for Yangon United in the Myanmar National League and became the first Australian goalkeeper to join the league. Upon his arrival, he started in all 14 of his league matches, keeping five clean sheets, and eventually helped Yangon finish second in the league. Prior to playing overseas, he spent seven years with A-League team Brisbane Roar, where he returned for a brief spell before joining Olympic FC in 2015. He also represented Australia at the U20 level.
 

Isaac Annan, from Accra, Ghana, established and developed his football career in Ghana, where he played for Unistar Soccer Academy, Pure Joy FC, and Charity FC, respectively. He also got called up to Ghana’s U20 team in 2010. He’s a fearless and formidable shot stopper, and we hope he can establish himself at Kaya as well.
 

Robert Lopez Mendy, from Dakar, Senegal, previously played for Green Archers United FC. Having scored for the Archers on numerous occasions, he helped the team reach its goals through his goal-scoring exploits and fantastic performances in the United Football League (UFL).

We would like to give a warm welcome to our new signings, who are a testament to our intentions to strengthen our squad, continue where we left off from last season, and start the year with hope and promise.

Kaya FC head coach leaves post

MANILA, Philippines – Kaya FC head coach Adam Reekie tendered his resignation after steering the team to the United Football League top spot during his 6-month tenure, the club's website announced on Tuesday, March 31.

Reekie has been calling the shots for Kaya since September of 2014 and has only been at the helm of the club for 7 league games since the start of the UFL first division last January.

According to the statement, the resignation is effective immediately.

The team expressed its gratitude to the coach despite his short stay with one of the most followed clubs in the local premier football competition.

"We would like to thank Adam for the hard work, professionalism, and utmost dedication that he has shown during his time, albeit brief, as head coach and director of coaching at the academy," said the announcement.

Meanwhile, Kaya FC asserted that they will remain focused on continuing their great run this season despite the early departure of Reekie.

"Our goals and objectives remain the same, and we are determined to achieve them. Kaya is known for its “Never say die” attitude. We never give up and we never give in. We know what it means to overcome obstacles, to play with heart, and to keep the dream alive."

Adam Reekie named new Kaya head coach

Kaya Futbol Club would like to take this opportunity to introduce our new head coach, Adam Reekie. He is the replacement for David Perković, who coached the club for two seasons.

Born in Folkestone, England, Adam Reekie, 34, holds a United States Soccer Federation “A” Coaching License, USSF National Youth License, and a coaching certificate from the English Football Association.

Before his appointment as Kaya’s head coach, he was the assistant coach of the Syracuse women’s football team for three seasons (2011–2014). His previous coaching stints also include being the assistant coach of the Canisius men’s football team (2009–2011), head coach of the Louisburg College women’s football team (2007–2009), and assistant coach of Lock Haven women’s football team for one season. Moreover, in his late teens, he was a community coach at Charlton Athletic Football Club.

“I am excited to join Kaya FC at this time when football clubs play a key role in the development of Philippine football,” said Reekie. “I know the club will be right behind me, and I hope I can make a big impression.”

Reekie, a former footballer, had a fairly modest playing career, most notably starting in all 34 games for Canisius and having been chosen as the team captain in 2004. Prior to that, he played for Louisburg (2001–2003), earning the Student-Athlete of the Year award in 2003, and helped the Hurricanes advance to two NJCAA national tournaments.

“This is a great opportunity for me to grow as a coach and experience the culture and football of the Philippines. I hope to bring what I have learnt from my time in England and the USA to Kaya FC and help them grow as a club and be successful on and off the pitch,” said Reekie.

We believe it is important to bring in someone who shares our values and is committed to our vision. Reekie has a history of achievements with his previous teams, both as a player and as a coach, and we are pleased to say that we have found a man with the experience, knowledge, and passion fit to lead Kaya in the FA League Cup and beyond.

A Statement from David Perković

It is with deep sadness that I announce that I will not be renewing my contract with Kaya FC and that the Loyola match will be my last with the club.

When I was first given the opportunity to coach Kaya, my job was to introduce a distinctive style of football based on possession, and that’s why I jumped at the opportunity to coach the club. I believe that, in my time here, I have introduced a footballing culture with the help of the club, mainly Justin and Paul Tolentino. I am proud that the team, although with many changes to the roster, has maintained the club’s historical characteristic of having a “never say die” attitude. I am also proud that seven players have been called to be part of the national team’s squad and that I have been able to provide an opportunity for three teenagers (ages 16, 16, and 17) to debut on the senior team, mainly off the good work of Kaya Academy.

I would like to thank the owners of the club for giving me the opportunity to work in a fantastic environment. Justin and Paul for their professionalism and support—they have been more than what a coach could ask for. The fans, especially Ultras Kaya—although I’ll be based in Australia, I believe that I am now an Ultra as I have been blessed to be given the Ultras’ scarf. Your support has driven me on the pitch every day. To past and present players, thank you for your commitment to the cause and believing in the football philosophy that was introduced. To the present and future players, don’t take for granted this great club, its history, and its professionalism, which will continue to drive this sport in the Philippines and also continue to provide current and future Azkals a home to learn and excel.

Kaya FC escapes 10-man Pachanga to keep slim UFL title hopes alive

KAYA FC pounced on a Pachanga side that went a man down late and was on the wrong end of a questionable call, hacking out a 2-1 victory to keep its slim title hopes alive in the United Football League on Sunday night.

The tournament dark horse rallied from one goal down in the second half after Pachanga midfielder Alu Kigbu was sent off following two yellow-card infractions and goalkeeper Steve Yambou was penalized for apparently holding the ball too long, awarding Kaya an indirect free kick it turned into a goal.

“It felt a bit like highway robbery,” Kaya coach David Perkovic admitted after the match at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig. “Pachanga did a good job disrupting our play…but it was good for the boys to dig deep and get the result.”

Kaya, thus supplanted Loyola Meralco in second spot after jacking its point sum to 40, ahead of the Sparks on goal difference and seven points behind league-leading Global FC.

The LBC-backed squad also snapped Pachanga’s four-game winning streak, leaving its victim stuck in sixth place with 26 points.

It seemed Pachanga would keep its impressive run alive and do Global a favor after Yoon Jang Ho struck the opening goal three minutes after the restart, spurring an inspired showing for 30 more minutes.

But Kaya, which saw four starters in Pablo Rodriguez, Richard Greer, Masa Omura, and Miguel Tanton leave one after the other in the first half due to injuries, appeared to benefit when Kigbu was ejected in the 83rd.

Then Yambou, which had made several nice saves earlier, was called for holding the ball more than the maximum six seconds in the 84th minute, giving Kaya the free kick inside the box, which Anton del Rosario slotted home.

After a handful of missed attempts, Chris Greatwich finally found the back of the net five minutes later off a feed from Janrick Soriano for the go-ahead goal.

“Yung breaks ng game napunta sa Kaya,” said Pachanga coach Noel Marcaida, who felt his goalkeeper didn’t hold the ball that long. “Nabigla ako, biglang six-second rule. Nag-blow ng whistle after two, three seconds lang.”

“Nasisira yung magandang laro ‘dun sa mga calls na ‘yun,” added Marcaida, a goalkeeper in his playing days.

Kaya boss explains Garmaroudi cut: 'He's not on same page with team'

KAYA coach David Perkovic is sticking to the positives with the departure of several of his players especially first-choice goalkeeper Saba Garmaroudi ahead of the opening of the United Football League on Saturday.

In one of biggest surprises in the United Football League preseason, veteran Iranian 'keeper Garmaroudi, who had been integral to Kaya’s campaign in the top tier in the last few years, was among those cut along with Danilo de Jong, Scott Baginski, Mitchell Davidson, and Fabien Lewis.

Perkovic explained the decision to drop Garmaroudi, whose recently expired contract was not renewed, saying the player and team are not on the same page.

“Saba has different goals than what was required of him by the club and myself, so therefore we went our separate ways,” Australian mentor told Spin.ph on Monday, refusing to elaborate, although he believes the goalkeeper will transfer to Division 2 side Laos.

“I think along with some of the players we’ve lost before, sometimes it’s better for the squad that some players leave. But I don’t really focus too much on what ‘was’ the squad. I try to look forward and make sure we’re positive about our future.”

“Instead of thinking about what we’ve lost, I try to think about what we’ve gained,” he added of his team, which finished fourth among 10 teams last season.

One of Kaya’s most notable additions is homegrown Filipino Mark Sorongon, who will contend with fellow 'keeper Nick O’Donnell for the starting position.

Kaya has two other Filipino signings in midfielder Miguel Tanton and 19-year-old Filipino-Australian striker Luis Abadia.

Midfielder Richard Greer of Queensland leads the cast of foreign recruits along with Australian Tommy Taylor and Ghanaian centerback Alfred Osei.

Hardly satisfied with his new-look lineup that is still bannered by Azkals OJ Porteria and Chris Greatwich, Perkovic nevertheless has to make do with what he has.

“I think we’ll hit the ground running fine, but having said that, we have a lot of hard work to do.”

Other teams have also been undergoing major revamps, saying the only “stable” squads in the league are newly minted UFL Cup champion Loyola Meralco and Green Archers United.

“The competition’s going to be very interesting because there are a lot of changes to all the teams.”

UFL: Kaya signs former Pasargad striker , international recruits to boost lineup

Kaya FC has signed a number of players in its bid to contend for the title in the upcoming United Football League season.
Among the club’s new recruits is Emmanuel Mbata, one of the league’s most potent strikers after leading Pasargad FC last year with 10 goals. His inclusion would also help the team’s struggles on the offensive end, with him forming a deadly attacking duo with promising striker OJ Porteria.
Also joining Kaya is former Stallion Sta.Lucia player Jovin Bedic and Danilo De Jong, brother of national team player Jason De Jong.
Kaya also lured a couple of players abroad such as Andrew Liauw from Holland, Mati Alvarez from Argentina and Scott Baginski from Australia.
Kaya coach David Perkovic hopes that the new signings will help them surpass their performance last season, where the team, which was picked as one of the favorites for the League crown, only managed to finish fourth place.
“I definitely think this is a squad that will represent top football Kaya wants to play,” Perkovic said. “We’ve got the pieces here which will play good football.”
Apart from the new signings, Kaya will still be led by veterans Anton del Rosario and Chris Greatwich, among others.

Kaya seeks to sustain rise in UFL standings

REJUVENATED Kaya side hopes to continue its rise in the standings as it takes on PSG Thursday night in the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium in Tagiug.

Coming off a win that moved them on the other half of the rankings, the 2012 League runners-up face the squad formerly known as Pasargad at 7:30 p.m. in the last playing day of the league before the Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup and the Holy Week break.

A win for Kaya will propel the squad to at least a tie for fourth place with Nomads with 11 points each. The team is coming off a 3-0 blanking of Philippine Army last week, giving new coach David Perkovic a successful debut.

Kaya, however, is expected to be without national team standouts OJ Porteria and Chris Greatwich and will be facing another revitalized team in PSG, which is fresh from booking its first win in six games last Saturday behind a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Green Archers United.

Philippine Air Force seeks to finally barge in the win column when it faces Pachanga-Diliman earlier at 5:15 p.m.

The Airmen, who lost to fellow Armed Forces squad Army, 3-0, in their last game, are the only winless team in the league after six outings, while Pachanga, the 2012 Division 2 champion, is in sixth place with six points in six games.

Kaya coach resigns after just three matches

Kaya FC coach Maor Rozen resigned Saturday after just three matches with the club.
Team owner Santi Araneta announced the news through his Twitter account.
“Maor Rozen has officially tendered his resignation as Coach of Kaya FC. We’re grateful for his contributions to the club & we wish him well,” Araneta wrote on Twitter.
The Spanish-Uruguayan Rozen, who once coached the country’s national Under-19 football team, was hired on December last year after Kaya’s interim coach Kale Alvarez stepped down from his post.
Under Rozen, Kaya recorded a win, a loss and a draw in its first three matches to tie Nomads FC at fourth place in the standings. The team barely missed winning the League title last season, dropping to second place behind Global FC due to an inferior goal differential.
Rozen was actually only able to finish one match with Kaya, a 1-0 loss to Pachanga Diliman FC in his debut with the squad. He was sent off during the club’s 2-1 fight-marred triumph against Green Archers United Globe after entering the pitch during the melee that broke out midway through the second half.
Because of the red card he received in that match, Rozen was suspended for Kaya’s match against Nomads FC, which ended in a scoreless draw last Tuesday.
Reached by InterAKTV, Rozen said that he will wait for the club to release an official statement before commenting about his resignation.
“The club will publish statement thereon. Later on, it will be a pleasure to talk to you. Mabuhay!” he said.
Kaya has yet to announce Rozen’s replacement for its upcoming match against Cup titlist Stallion Sta. Lucia on Tuesday.

Kaya Fc coach sacked after big loss

In search of a “fresh attitude” among its players, Kaya FC replaced coach Juan Cutillas effective Monday night, a reliable source within the team told News5 on Tuesday.

According to the source who requested anonimity, Cutillas was replaced because he has generated “negative attitude” from the team’s players.

A Spanish national, Cutillas was a former coach of the Philippine national men’s football team.

Kaya is making the change just days after the team was demolished by rival Global FC, 5-1, in United Football League action last Saturday.

After the match, Kaya FC owner Santi Araneta took his frustrations to Twitter, saying the team “played like crap.”

Erstwhile assistant coach Kale Alvarez is taking over as interim coach, said the source, while the club is searching for the best candidate to take Cutillas’ place. The source added that the club is already in contact with several candidates regarding the position.

Cutillas joined Kaya as coach in August 2011.

The club is currently third in the UFL Division One with 18 points, behind Global and Loyola.

Moy exploits lift Kaya to share of UFL lead

MANILA, Philippines - Kaya FC leaned on Fil-Am midfielder Lexton Moy’s heroics as it turned back a tough Green Archers United, 2-1, for a share of the lead with Loyola Meralco Sparks in Division One of the United Football League at the University of Makati field last Sunday.

Moy drilled in two goals, including one on the 86th minute gave the LBC-backed Kaya its second straight win after a stunning 1-0 victory over reigning League and Cup champion Air Force Phoenix.

The Sparks, led by brothers James and Phil Younghusband, also tote six points.

“It’s a great feeling winning our first two games but it’s still too early to tell our chances. We just have to keep on working hard,” said Kaya’s locally based Spanish coach Juan Cutillas.

After a scoreless first half, Moy, who played school ball for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and the Long Island University Blackbirds, drew first blood with a goal on the 48th minute.

The Hans Smith-mentored Archers, who yielded a 2-3 decision to the Sparks in their opening game, fought their way back behind Arvin Gaspe’s goal on the 85th minute to tie the count.

But Moy, who also played pro ball in the Hong Kong First Division League for two seasons before joining the Azkals as a reserve and then Kaya as a regular last year, blasted in the marginal goal exactly a minute later.

Meanwhile, Air Force Phoenix hopes to bounce back from a heartbreaking setback to Kaya as it takes on Stallion Gilligan’s FC at 6 tonight at the University of Makati field.


Spearheaded by Azkals strikers Chieffy Caligdong and Ian Araneta, the Airmen are looking to get on the scoring board with a win against a Stallion Gilligan’s team, which routed Navy Red Juice, 6-0, in the most lopsided win in the tournament thus far.

Another win by the Stallions, who have three points, would keep them in step with Kaya and the Sparks.

Romero continues soccer career

Guam resident Jonahan "JR" Romero's passion for soccer has taken him on a memorable journey. After playing collegiately at the University of Memphis, the men's national team member is now playing professionally for Kaya Football Club of the United Football League in the Philippines.

"My experience in the (Philippines) has been a great one," Romero said via email. "Soccer is becoming so big here due to the Philippine national team known as the Azkals. It's a great feeling when people come up to you and ask to take pictures and tell you they know who you are because they have seen you on TV playing."

Romero left island just over a month ago after Kaya FC offered him a one-year contract upon his successful completion of the team's tryout. So far Romero said he is adjusting to his new lifestyle rather quickly but there is one thing he is still struggling with.

"The roughest part I would say is having to be at practice at 6 a.m.," Romero said.

Playing professionally has also taught Romero to always be ready no matter what task he is assigned. "I've learned to be an overall player and to not ask questions. If the coach thinks you can do a job in another position then just be ready to go and get the job done," Romero said.

In spite of the early morning sessions and unpredictability of the game, Romero enjoys the international flavor of his team's roster. "Players are coming from everywhere. For instance I get the pleasure (of playing) with players from France, Argentina, the Philippines, Nigeria and Ghana," Romero said.

As much as Romero is enjoying his time on the field, his time off the field has been just as memorable. "I just love the simple life. The new foods that I have been introduced to and the new friends I have made," Romero said. Romero added that the second year of his contract is optional so he'll evaluate his options when the time comes. For now he is happy with his opportunity to play professionally and he plans to make the most of it.

"I can see myself going far in soccer here, but my goal has always been to keep playing and seeing the world and getting to learn other styles of soccer," Romero said.

Loyola Meralco Sparks crush Socceroos; Burkey powers Kaya booters past Diliman XI

MANILA, Philippines—National team strikers Phil Younghusband and Nate Burkey sparkled as Loyola Meralco Sparks and Kaya Cignal scored contrasting victories Saturday in the United Football League Cup at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Younghusband fired a tournament-high seven goals in a 15-1 demolition of newcomer Socceroos in Group B, while Burkey delivered a hat-trick to lift 10-man Kaya Cignal to a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Diliman Victory Liner.
The Sparks brandished their souped-up attack with Mark Hartmann also drilling in five goals and Matthew Hartmann, Jake Morallo and Davide Cortina adding a goal each.
With the Hartmanns striking in the first 10 minutes and Younghusband already slotting five goals by the 30th minute, the Sparks merely went through the motions in the second half against the overmatched Socceroos, whose squad was bannered by former Southridge players and Brazilian-Japanese bets.
Socceroos skipper Mike Reyes salvaged some pride with his 55th minute strike averting the shutout.
The win allowed the Sparks to grab the headstart in Group B, which also includes Agila FC and Internacionale FC.
The 26-year-old Burkey carried his good form with the national team to Kaya as he helped his side rally from a goal down twice to pull off the improbable win.
Kaya remained second in Group C behind Diliman on goal difference, although it has a game in hand.
In an enthralling duel aired live on AKTV on IBC13, the wards of coach Juan Cutillas survived despite skipper and central defender Aly Borromeo leaving the game late in the first half because of injury and Lexton Moy sent off in the 40th minute.
Coming off a 7-0 crushing of ABC Stars, Diliman took a shock lead in the 2nd minute when Jinggoy Valmayor, finding himself with plenty of space on top of the box, rifled home from 20 yards.
Kaya equalized with Burkey, set up by Jason Sabio’s throw in, doing well to keep the ball despite pressure from Diliman before his deflected shot found the back of the net in the 20th minute.
Former national player Ariel Zerrudo restored Diliman’s advantage with an instinctive strike from an Anto Gonzales through ball seven minutes from the break.
But Kaya, sparked by the introduction of Anton del Rosario, Masa Omura and Ruffy Llorente, gained a foothold on the game and kept the pressure on Diliman.
Kaya’s persistence was rewarded by Burkey’s 55th minute penalty after Deo Segunial fouled Adrian Semblat in the area.
Burkey put the finishing touches to a sensational performance by latching onto Omura’s dummy and slotting it past Jerome Leung.
