Ian SuyuThe Philippine Azkals finally got back in the winning column after thumping Guam, 3-0, in the group stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup joint qualifiers in Sharjah Stadium, United Arab Emirates.
After an early goal from Angel Guirado in the first half, the Filipinos boosted their second half performance as an own goal from Guam’s Marcus Lopez and a late direct free kick from Mark Hartmann sealed the victory for the national squad.
Bagging its third victory in the prestigious tourney, the squad has now solidified its third place position in the Group A with 10 points and improved its chances to advance in the next round of Asian Cup qualifiers.
The Nationals are set to finish their group stage campaign when they face Maldives on 15 June.
