Third Season Of PFF Women’s League Kicks Off 27 July

The PFF Women’s League marks its third season on the back of the continuous rise of Women’s football in the country.
Organised and sanctioned by PFF, the PFF Women’s League will have a cast of ten (10) teams coming from four (4) Women’s Football Teams from the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and six (6) amateur women’s football clubs.
Each team will play a total of 18 matches each in a double round-robin league competition with a total of ninety (90) matches beginning 27 July 2019 until December 2019.
The PFF National Training Centre inside the San Lazaro Leisure and Business Park in Carmona, Cavite will host the tournament for the third straight year with two matches played every Saturday and Sunday mornings. Additional select matches will also be held during weekdays.
The PFF Women’s League is one of the PFF tournaments that is supported by FIFA under its Forward Programme. Teams are required to register their players and coaches in the MyPFF online registration system.
The De La Salle University Women’s Football Team, the defending PFF Women’s League champions for the past two seasons, will expect stiff opposition from the other nine participating teams.
Joining De La Salle in the tournament are last year’s runners up University of Santo Tomas Women’s Football Team, Far Eastern University Women’s Football Team, University of the Philippines Women’s Football Team, Tuloy FC, Stallion-Hiraya FC, and Green Archers United FC. The three new teams that will compete in this year’s competition are: Maroons FC, Nomads FC, and Tigers FC.
The tournament will also serve as the Philippine Women’s National Team’s continuous preparation for their upcoming tournaments such as the AFF Women’s Championship 2019 in Chonburi, Thailand this August 2019 and the 30th Southeast Asian Games in Manila this November 2019. Majority of the players in the Women’s National Team will play in teams in the competition.
“Women’s football continues its ascendancy in the country through our women national team and the PFF Women’s League,” said PFF general secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes. “We thank FIFA for supporting the PFF in its women’s football development initiatives. We look forward to another thrilling third season of the PFF Women’s League.”
