Four-midable Hartman puts on show for Azkals coach in Global's nine-goal romp

By Karlo Sacamos

MARK Hartmann picked the best time to show off his offensive prowess in leading Global FC to a resounding 9-0 victory over Socceroo in the United Football League on Tuesday night at the Emperador Stadium in Mckinley Hill.
With new national team coach Thomas Dooley watching from the grandstand, Hartmann shone brightest among the many Azkals in the lineup, firing four goals in the rout that translated to the team’s fifth straight win.
The 22-year-old Hartmann, whose output was the most by one player in a single game in the league so far, helped Global hand Socceroo, coming off a stunning 3-3 draw against league-leading Loyola, its fifth loss in seven games.
“That may have affected their performance,” Global coach Leigh Manson said of the presence of Dooley, who earlier said that spots in the Azkals roster have to be earned. “Obviously, you want to make a good impression."
It was not only Filipinos who stood out in the one-sided match that recorded the biggest winning margin so far as Iranian Milad Behgandom and Sudanese Izzo El-Habib scored a brace each, while Polish skipper Ben Starosta chipped in a goal and three assists.
After Behgandom opened the floodgates five minutes into the game, the Filipino-English Hartman scored a hat-trick in a span of seven minutes starting in the 17th when he challenged the Socceroo goalkeeper one on one before looping it over for the goal.
The attacking midfielder then converted a header off a Starosta cross in the 22nd, before scoring again from long range just a minute later.
Behgandom then pounced on another one-on-one situation in the 28th to give Global a commanding lead at the half.
Starosta scored from close range two minutes into the second half, before Hartmann completed his impressive effort in the 61st.
In his first game back from an injury, El-Habbib scored a header just two minutes after coming in the 68th, before striking anew a minute before stoppage time.
