Global tries to reclaim top UFL spot

Defending champion Global FC tries to reclaim the top spot in the standings as it takes on Kaya FC in United Football League action Thursday at the Emperador Stadium in Mckinley Hill in Taguig.
Global and Kaya clash at 7:30 p.m. after the match between Philippine Air Force and Pasargad FC at 5:15 p.m.
After sitting at the top spot for the most part of the season, Global slid down to second place to trail Stallion Sta. Lucia, which gained the lead in the standings after a victory over the Loyola Meralco Sparks last Tuesday.
Global saw the end of its seven-game winning run last week after settling for a 1-1 draw against the Sparks to suffer its campaign’s first blemish. A victory will put Global back on top of the title race as the first round of fixtures nears to an end.
But Global’s mission won’t be easy as it faces the streaking Kaya, which found its way back on the upper half of the standings.
After a lethargic start to the season, last year’s runner up Kaya has scored two victories and a draw since new coach David Perkovic took over the team. The squad has since improved to a 3-3-2 win-draw-loss card to gain 12 points and occupy fourth place in the standings just behind the title contenders.
In the first match, Pasargad and Air Force aim to get the victory to boost their respective campaigns.
Pasargad is currently at seventh place with 2-2-4 record for eight points and a victory would help the squad climb further in the table.
Air Force, meanwhile, hopes to finally score a victory to pump some life in its disastrous campaign after remaining the only squad without a win in eight matches.
AKTV begins live coverage at 5 p.m.
