THE mix of local and foreign players hopes to be a determining factor when Baguio City Football Association takes on a more experienced General Trias Int’l FC in the round of 16 of the PFF Smart National Club Championships.
Although they face a tougher challenge going into today’s game (Jan. 12) which starts at 3 p.m. at the BSU football pitch, coach Homer Alinsug of the Baguio United FC represented BCFA said they remain upbeat of their chances against the visiting squad.
“We have a veteran team but we haven’t played a UFL or professional team. We’ve prepared the best we can. We’ll try to play our best,” added Alinsug.
Gen. Trias is a member of Cavite Football Association and is one of the top 10 teams in the United Football League who got an automatic slot in the round of 16.
Baguio City Football Association, whose players represent Baguio and Benguet will be bannered by Joseph Lingwayon who scored two hattricks during the Luzon Clusters elimination together with former UFL player Mohanad Farah.
Farah is considered as one of the deadliest strikers in UFL and was the top scorer of division 2 of last season’s play for pay football league.
Alinsug added he hopes the team would cash-in on their game plan and systems of play in giving them another lease of life in entering the quarterfinals.
“We are focused on the game, we’ve trained and studied films of Gen. Trias and if we focus and play our game, we can get positive results,” Alinsug said.
Last year, BCFA also made it to round 16 but lost failing to advance in the quarterfinals and Alinsug hopes they hurdle Gen. Trias this time.
“We’re not satisfied having reached the round of 16. We want to advance. That’s our goal, our mindset,” Alinsug said.
