Ceres dumps San Beda, 6-0 to top Group A Qualifier

By Jerome S. Galunan Jr.

Defending champion Ceres-La Salle Football Club blanked San Beda FC, 6-nil, yesterday and refused to yield any goal to complete their 2-0 win-loss run in the just-concluded Group A Qualifier of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF)-Smart National Club Championship 2014 played at the North Football Field, Talisay City.
The home squad came out to be too much for visiting Rizal FA’s San Beda side with three goals in the first half led by Fil-Spanish Carlie de Murga’s 19th minute goal.
San Carlos City’s Jayson Panhay scored his first of two in the 28th minute to give Ceres their second goal in the match as veteran forward Adrián Gallardo broke San Beda’s defense to nail the champion’s third goal in the 34th minute.

Kaya FC rips Forza in UFL FA League Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Kaya FC continued to dominate their foes in Group B of the United Football League (UFL) FA League Cup after dominating the hapless Forza FC, 5-0, at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium on Thursday, September 6.
Coming off a commanding 9-1 victory against Dolphin United FC last Sunday, the men of Kaya once again demonstrated their supremacy in the field, this time at the expense of Forza.
Kaya FC’s offense went hard on their defenders coming out of the gates sending a multitude of shots on goal, but they were well guarded by Forza FC up until the 35th minute when Louis Clark exposed a defensive lapse following a cross from Diego Barrera. The game went into halftime with Kaya leading Forza, 1-0.
As the game returned into action for the second half, Kaya FC’s offense sustained their cutthroat blitz on their enemy’s territory.
The persistent offense of the yellow shirts resulted in another goal by Clark, this time via an assist by Jovin Bedic.
Clark, who is coming off a 4-goal outing in their win against the Dolphins, did not rest his boots as he racked up the second hat-trick of his UFL career off a pass from Azkals standout Kenshiro Daniels in the 64th minute.
Forza FC’s fatigued offense tried to spark a late game outburst but their gallant effort to tally a score for their squad was too weak for Kaya’s formidable backline.
To strum the final note on Kaya FC’s rhythmic win, Christian Ayew smacked a striking goal from outside the box, ending the game at 5-0 in favor of his club.
Meanwhile, the game between Manila All-Japan FC and Team Socceroo FC concluded in a 1-1 stalemate. -

The Bacolod-based squad will be challenged by Cluster 1 winner Dipolog MC FC,
representing the Zamboanga del Norte-Dipolog Football Association and Cluster 6 top
team San Beda FC of the Rizal FA.
Ceres FC defended its title last year with a 2-1 and 1-nil win over the Azkals-studded
Global FC in a home-and-away format championships played at Panaad Park and
Stadium which earned them the right to represent the Philippines in the Asean
Football Confederation (AFC) President’s Cup.
Against three foreign clubs FC HTTU of Turkmenistan, Tatung Company of
Chinese Taipei, and the Rimyongsu Club of the People’s Republic of Korea
(North Korea), the home team failed to advance in the tournament’s final stage
after losing to FC HTTU of Turkmenistan, 2-1.
Ceres-La Salle FC Director Ali Bernard Go said the team is working hard with
full support of the management to achieve its goal of bringing Philippine football
to the next level.
While facing the challenges of having several players playing in the national team,
Go said they have been working closely with the Azkals’ management on how to
deal with some issues concerning Ceres’ players.
“While the club is looking at some tough tournaments onward, we are also looking
at arranging details on rendering service to the country. All these events are important
to us at Ceres, and we are not taking things lightly or selecting which to
prioritize,” he said.
Go added: “To be in a tournament is an opportunity, but to represent the country
is an honor. You are playing not only for the prize but for pride. I know the feeling
because I once wore the national color.”
The Bacolod-based club, headed by Korean mentor Cha Soungyooung, will be bannered
by team captain Fil-Spanish defender Juani Guirado, co-skipper and goalkeeper
Michael Casas, second choice keeper Bago City-native Eduard Sacapaño,

Ceres, Pachanga grab wins in UFL FA League

MANILA, Philippines - Ceres-La Salle FC and Pachanga-Diliman FC thwarted their foes to snatch wins in the group stage of the United Football League (UFL) FA League Cup at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium on Tuesday, September 23.
Capitalizing on their momentum coming off an imposing first game win, Ceres FC dominated Stallion FC, 4-2, to tally their second win in the FA League Cup.
The battle between the two Visayan clubs started off with Stallion FC exhibiting their strength by asserting their way through the heart of their rival’s defense, resulting in an early goal by Jordan Mintah in the 11th minute.
Not long after, UFL rookie Adrian Gallardo answered back with a goal of his own off a pass from Orman Okunaiya in the 14th minute to level the score line at 1-1.
A flurry of attacks coming from both sides marred the remaining minutes of the opening half but no more goals were sunk going into the break.
Azkals standout Patrick Reichelt, who came in as a substitute in the 34th minute, extended the lead for Ceres as he notched one through the middle of the Stallion FC defense in the 50th minute.
With just a single goal separating them from their opponents, Stallion FC continued on with their game, pressuring Ceres on both sides of the pitch but their toothless attacks were easy pickings for veteran goalkeeper Ed Sacapaño.
Reichelt headed another goal into the back of the net off a corner kick in the 57th minute to extend the lead of his squad to 3-1.
Consequently, Stallion retaliated on the other side via a free kick goal by Angel Carrascosa in the 61st minute. The game progressed with Ceres only leading Stallion by a goal, 3-2.
In the dying minutes of the game, veteran defender and Ceres FC skipper Juani Guirado wrote the final sentence of the match as he slipped a final goal in to end the game, 4-2.
Meanwhile, Pachanga FC captured their first win in the tournament by overshadowing Manila Jeepney FC, 4-3.
The action-packed game escalated quickly as back-to-back goals were slithered by both clubs five minutes into the first half courtesy of Pachanga’s Behrouz Khoshgavar and Manila Jeepney’s Arthur Kouassi.
A few minutes after, Kouassi, in an effort to break the deadlock, broke free from his defender and struck a scissor’s kick towards the Pachanga goal but the crossbar denied his shot.
In the 22nd minute of the match, Gerardo Valmayor managed to find a gap on Manila Jeepney’s defense via a pass from his teammate Jafary Dastjerdi and finally break the 1-1 standstill between the two teams.
Pachanga-Diliman was relentless with their offensive blitz forcing the defense of Manila Jeepney FC to give up a penalty kick due to a handball inside the box. Yi Young Park took the penalty and converted, giving his club a 3-1 advantage going into halftime.
Preventing their adversaries from capturing an easy win, Manila Jeepney shifted their offense to full throttle which then led to another goal by Kouassi in the 53rd minute.
The recharged offense of the Manila-based club proved to be instrumental as they managed to pull off a comeback via a penalty kick that was sank by Jahanbakhsh Zabihi Taher to tie the game at 3-3.
Answering back on the other end, Valmayor logged his second goal to extinguish the fired up offense of Manila Jeepney and end the game with a 4-3 score line for his home squad.
Also, to cap off the victories for Tuesday’s UFL action, Loyola Meralco Sparks FC trounced Army FC, 3-1, at the Emperador Stadium while Global FC devoured Dolphins United FC, 12-0. - Rappler.com

Muzangs bow out of AFF Futsal Championship

MANILA, Philippines - The Muzangs were eliminated from contention in the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Futsal Championship after being defeated consecutively by Thailand and Vietnam at the Malawati Stadium in Malaysia.
Coming out of a 4-4 draw against Laos on opening day, the Philippine national futsal team incurred their first defeat in the tournament after being devoured by powerhouse team Thailand, 1-16 on Saturday, September 20.
The Thais are seeded as the world’s number 17 while the Filipinos hold the 92nd spot in the world rankings.
Despite being pounded by the offensive blitz of their foes, the Muzangs exposed a gap in Thailand’s defense in the first half and notched a solitary goal through the efforts of Robert Cañedo.
Meanwhile, proving their might over the lower ranked Philippine team, the Thai side exploded with a 16-goal landslide as proof of their dominant offense coming out of the gates.
To make matters worse for the Muzangs, another loss was tucked under their belts a day after through the hands of world number 47 Vietnam, who beat them 1-11 on Sunday, September 21.
The formidable defense of the national futsal booters of the Philippines held off their rivals to just two goals going into the half preventing an early outburst from the Vietnamese side.
Consequently, nine more goals were tallied for the Golden Stars in the second half to cap off their 11-goal outing in the third day of the group stage of the competition.
United Football League standout and Green Archers United FC player Jovanie Simpron served as the country’s silver lining in the match after bagging the Muzangs only goal in the dying minutes of the final half.
As a result of the two consecutive losses, the Muzangs have officially bowed out of the title contention for the AFF Futsal Championship.
According to Muzangs head coach Red Avelino, they learned a lot from their experience playing with a top quality futsal club.
“This is the first time the Philippines actually played Thailand man to man. We had so many excellent moments during the game matching them one on one. These are World Cup players we were playing against, and we discovered our player's abilities, both strengths and weaknesses. We learned a lot from that experience,” he said.
Avelino added, “Vietnam beat us physically, they consistently applied high pressure, and all of them had excellent conditioning, they were like robots. We matched their speed and endurance, we just ran out of gas. They kept the pace and intensity high from start to finish. Vietnam's physical endurance and conditioning beat us. They capitalized on that split second where our players couldn’t catch up.”
The Muzang will play their final game in the tournament Tuesday, September 23 against Myanmar still at the Malawati Stadium in Shah Alam, Malaysia to cap off their crusade in the regional futsal meet. - Rappler.com

PFF Smart : Training mode

Monday, SeUM Tagum FC earned a slot in the group stage after winning Cluster 4 against Hooligans FC, Montevista FC and Tandag FC. UM Tagum finished with seven points from two wins and a draw.
Real Marbel FC, on the other, earned their way into the group stage after finishing as the second best club in Clusters 1 to 4 or the Mindanao area.

The PFF Smart Club Championship limits a team to only five foreign players.
UC Erco has revamped its roster with players from Erco FC, Bro Nationals and players and alumni from UC. Aside from that, former Azkals striker Ian Araneta is also suiting up for UC Erco.
“Ian is not yet with the team right now but maybe this week, he will join the team’s training and tune-up matches,” said Orale.
Group E will also be played here in Cebu with the group comprised of Leyte FA’s Laos FC, Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental Football Association’s Magis FC and Naga City-Camarines Sur Football Association (NCCSFA) ABC Stars FC.
The winner of each group will advance to the national tournament and will be joined by three clubs from the United Football League.ptember 22, 2014

UC Erco will face Davao del Norte Football Association’s (DNFA) UM Tagum FC and Football Association of South Cotabato’s (Fasco) Real Marbel FC in Group D on Oct. 1 to 3 at the Cebu City Sports Center pitch.
“Our practices are still ongoing at Don Bosco and Abellana. We are concentrating on tactical practices since the schedule of games on Oct. 1, 2 and 3 are already final,” Erco FC’s Rodney Orale told Sun.Star Cebu. “As per coach Glen, the team is in good shape. We are still looking at the possibilities since we haven’t seen the teams, particularly the players. We are just doing full training since the schedule of the games, whether it be in the morning or afternoon, hasn’t been finalized yet.”
