Pusakals take on Germans

BILIBID Prison’s medium-security inmates have formed a football team to play a friendly with the German Club of Manila.
The clash will be made possible with the support of the Hanns Seidel Foundation, the German Embassy and the Office of the Solicitor General.
The German team, an expat squad known as the GC Cranes, are set to troop to the Muntinlupa prison on Jan. 14 to play the “Pusakals” in an encounter serving as a perfect prelude to the 31st anniversary of Philippine-German month in February.
The match will begin at 10 a.m., with with Azkals German Coach Michael Weiss as referee.
The game will not only promote physical fitness among inmates and support their educational program, it will also encourage leadership, team-building and camaraderie among inmates, who play for the Bilibid team.
Assistant Solicitor General Karl Miranda, Paul Schaefer of the Hanns Seidel Foundation, Ralph Timmermann, Deputy Head of Mission for the German Embassy and the Michael Scheile, President of the German Club will be around to watch the game.
The program was made possible through the Department of Justice Secretary Leila De Lima and the Bureau of Corrections Director Gaudencio Pangilinan. Peter Atencio
