Reigning Luzon regional champion Mama Sita’s extended its reign in beach football as it edged recent United Football League (UFL) and NCR champion Philippine Air Force, 3-2, in the national finals at Casa Pilar in Boracay last weekend.
Air Force opened the scoring in the fourth minute courtesy of Winnie Subere but Mama Sita’s Harold Lorenzo quickly retaliated to tie the count.
A penalty kick by Mama Sita’s Vicente Rosell early in the third period made it 2-1 for Mama Sita’s then he followed it up with another goal to give Mama Sita’s a 3-1 lead.
Subere scored another goal to push Air Force within at 2-3 but both teams failed to score in the remaining minutes, enabling Mama Sita’s to take the crown.
“We are happy that beach football is gaining a lot of popularity now and the Philippine Sports Commission will continue to support this sport in whatever way we can,” said PSC commissioner Chito Loyzaga.
The PSC presented the event together with the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) and the BFAP which has recently announced that Lt. Gen Oscar Rabeno (ret.) of the Philippine Air Force is now the honorary chairman of BFAP.
Meanwhile Mayor John Yap, owner of event venue Casa Pilar has offered the resort as a permanent home for beach football in Boracay both for the Visayas regional tournament and the 2012 national championship later this year.
