THE German Cranes showed that experience is superior to youth when they beat the younger Puzakals team 2-0, yesterday in a friendly football match at the Sunken Garden of the Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.
Ulrich Sibilski scored goals in the 10th and 46th minute to seal the German’s victory against the booter inmates.
“It’s a terrific fun game that also allows us to help the inmates in their rehabilitation programs and we’re so glad to be a part of it. It’s very amazing to score twice against a younger opponent,” said the 50-year old German striker Sibilski.
German goalkeeper Rene Berg did an outstanding defense to deflect most of the attempts by the Puzakals to score a goal.
German Ambassador to the Philippines Joachim Heidorn watched the one-hour goodwill match.
“It’s a good concept to organize an event like this. It helps them [the inmates] to return to normal life and it promotes the good life,” said Heidorn.
Archie Bueno, a former football player and the Puzakals’ playing coach thanked the Germans during his brief speech,
“It’s a 90-minute of freedom. We are very thankful to the Germans for giving us an opportunity to play with them. We’re hoping that the Azkals will also play with us too,” said Bueno.
Michael Scheile, the president of the German Club in the country, said that because of the success of the game, they are thinking of holding regular goodwill matches in the national penitentiary in the near future.
