THE Philippine Azkals face another stern test when they clash against Korean side Icheon Citizen FC on Jan. 21 in a match event dubbed the "Kia Rio Cup" at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The Azkals are preparing for the AFC Challenge Cup in Nepal in March and the match against the third division Korean squad will form part of their buildup for the prestigious tournament.
The match will also serve as another benefit game for the victims of Typhoon "Sendong" in Mindanao, according to Ebong Joson, who represented Azkals team manager Dan Palami in the PSA Forum yesterday at Shakey’s UN Ave.
The Azkals played Spanish squad CF Madrid in a charity match for the typhoon victims recently, losing 1-3.
A brand-new 2012 Kia Rio will be raffled off at the end of the match for ticket holders, according to Kia marketing executive Dodie Garan, who also graced the public service program presented by Smart, Pagcor, and Shakey’s.
Joson said the match scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. has generated a lot of interest from the Korean community in the country.
"We are looking forward to a good crowd," said Joson.
