The quest for football glory for the Philippines continues as the men’s national team set their eyes on the 2012 Asian Football Confederation Championship set in Bangkok, Thailand on February 21-26.
The competition was originally slated on November 26 to December 1 but heavy flooding in Bangkok prompted the organizers to reset the schedule of the competition, reports from the wires said.
The Philippines is bracketed in Group A, together with Indonesia, Thailand and Myanmar.
While Group B is composed of Australia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Cambodia.
The top three teams of the qualifying tournament will earn tickets to the 2012 AFC Futsal Championship to be held in the United Arab Emirates.
Futsal committee chair Essi Sedig said 50 percent of the country's Jakarta Southeast Asian Games players will compose the Bangkok-bound team.
Essi expressed confidence that the Philippines will qualify into the finals as the team wants to bounce back from its forgettable performance in the SEAG due to unfair officiating.
Likewise, the women's football team captain Marigen Ariel who suffered a fracture on her right face during the Jakarta SEAG is expected to undergo surgery this week.*PNA
