The Abellana National School (ANS) Pomeroy hopes to pad its lead when it goes up against the Don Bosco (DB) Boys Home as the 13th Aboitiz Football Cup resumes today at the Aboitiz Sportsfield at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.
The ANS Pomeroy currently leads the Boys 17 division with 3 points and a goal difference of 2 after tournament officials awarded them the game last weekend when their opponent, the FCIC Lapu-Lapu, walked out with 38 seconds left and the score tied at 1-all.
Based on the ground rules, the Cebu Football Association (CFA) which handles the tournament not only ruled the match 2-0 in favor of ANS Pomeroy, it also banned the FCIC Lapu-Lapu Boys 17 squad for three years from all CFA-sanctioned tournaments.
ANS Pomeroy coached by Francis Ramirez is also missing two of its players, midfielder John Rey Nieves and defender Joeford Dolino, who were meted one-year suspension from all CFA-sanctioned tournaments for punching their opponents during the Treadtel Cup 2010 held last July.
However, Recaredo Borgonia, regional director of the Department of Education Central Visayas (DepEd-7), declared that both boys will be allowed to compete in the Cebu City Olympics and the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) meet which will be handled by the CFA. But he clarified that should any football player err in scholastic, whatever disciplinary action the CFA deems appropriate will be recognized by the DepEd.
Meanwhile, the other Boys 17 match will played between Cebu International School (CIS) and FECINU.
In the Players 8 division, Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) 1 goes up against DBTC 3, Giuseppe FC meets Bright Academy, DBTC 2 faces DBTC 4 and DBTC A battles DBTC C.
In Players 10, DBTC C and SFC will try to take over the lead as division leader DBTC B is idle today. DBTC C meets DBTC A, while SFC faces CIS. Other matches pit DBTC E vs Bright Academy and Giuseppe FC vs Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC).
Boys 12 games pit DBTC 1 vs Springdale, DBTC 2 vs SFC and DB Boys Home vs SHS-AdC.
In Boys 14, Springdale guns for the lead against MTI while DB Boys Home sees action against SHS-AdC.
