Last Friday, October 29, the PFF President called for a Board Meeting. Looks like Philippine Football will continue for at least another year to agonize under the misery of a greedy, corrupt, and inept PFF President.
To oust Mr. Martinez in a desperate attempt to save Philippine Football the Board of Governors had to have a majority vote to effect the ouster of Martinez and then propose the ouster move to Congress. A vote of 2/3 of Congress is needed to declare the position of PFF vacant and replace Martinez on November 2010.
Ten Board members out of the 12 attended the meeting. Carlos Cojuangco of NOFA (his perennial absence never questioned) and Ramon Manlunas of Bukidnon FA did not attend. Out of the 10 Board members, 5 Board Members voted against the ouster of Martinez. This shouldn’t surprise anyone as this was expected. Their unquestionable loyalty is not to the institution or the sport but to an individual who like Martinez favor their own personal vested interests.
Those who continue to protect their self-interest and personal ambitions and voted against the ouster of Maritinez are the following:

Included in the October 29 BOG agenda but was later deferred due to heated arguments was the issue on the signatories of the PFF accounts. Last September the Board UNANIMOUSLY voted and a resolution passed to have Martinez removed as a signatory in the PFF accounts to ensure the safety of the PFF funds. It was suppose to be a non-issue after the resolution was passed but some Board members became suspicious after an item in the agenda pertaining to the signatories of PFF accounts was listed in the agenda.
It seems that there was/is a plan to reverse/alter that decision so that the loyalist will be able to continue to receive their bribe money. It is common knowledge that some of the names mentioned above have been receiving regular funding from PFF while those who are fighting the corrupt system in the PFF has not received a single centavo.
Although Martinez and his cohorts continue to succeed the fight for corruption-free football in the Philippines must continue and Martinez should never ever be allowed to be a signatory in the accounts of PFF———there may be a good chance he may lose his supporters without bribe money. Let him dig into his own pocket and pull out those stolen funds he took from the PFF coffer. The court case must likewise go on whether Martinez steps down voluntarily or not. He must be held responsible for all his actions!

P3.4M STILL MISSING Audit of Philippine Football Federation’s books reveals unaccounted funds
Close to P3.4 million from the funds of the Philippine Football Federation remained unaccounted for based on the fund releases from September 2009 to June 2010, an audit of the federation’s books revealed recently.
The audit was requested by the PFF Board of Governors after PFF president Jose Mari Martinez added Henry Tsai as a signatory to the checks of the federation without the approval of the board late last year.
Martinez is already facing two counts of falsification of public documents for submitting the PFF secretary’s certificates to banks showing that Tsai had been approved as a signatory for the accounts.
In a recent interview with the Inquirer, Martinez said the PFF has since broken its ties with Tsai for his failure to deliver his commitments to the federation.
A copy of the audit obtained by the Inquirer showed that Martinez had entrusted Tsai with P5.5 million, but only P2.1 million, which was advanced by Tsai to augment the PFF’s operational expenses, have been liquidated. Martinez said P3 million was also given to Tsai for “safekeeping.”
But PFF Board of Governor and Iloilo FA president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta said Tsai is even claiming that it’s the PFF who owes him money.
Even as he denied misappropriating funds of the PFF, Martinez said his only mistake was trusting Tsai, a businessman involved in shipping.
Martinez said he’d rather have his term remembered as the most active in terms of participation in international tournaments and strong linkages with the AFC and other national football associations including Chinese-Taipei.
But Araneta also pointed out the excessive spending of Martinez.
Araneta said Martinez was only alloted P250,000 a year for his expenses. But the audit showed that Martinez has already spent P1.4 million for the first 10 months of the year alone, including P162,789 for his medical expenses. “We want to recover the money because it should be for Philippine football,” said Araneta. “We are protecting the interest of the PFF.” /inquirer

Baguio Football - 11-a side football fires off
LOCAL football squads are set to test the mettle of each other for the Melvin Jones Futbol 11-a side festival at the Melvin Jones football field.
The two day tournament which starts Saturday and ends Sunday will be an open division competition and is open to all football teams free of charge.
However, participating teams who wish to join the tournament must have at least three volunteer referees during each game.
Interested teams may confirm attendance at the venue with games starting at 9 in the morning.
Despite the lack of support and a grass- root development program, Baguio’s love for football is starting to catch-up, thanks to foreigners studying in the Summer Capital and some locals who have embraced the sport.

Special football squad fails to join Dili tourney
DESPITE efforts to bring the Special Olympics national soccer to Dili, Timor Leste, the team missed the chance to represent the country.
The special Olympic football squad is supposed to see action in the Oct. 26 to 31 Special Olympics soccer tournament with other teams from 18 Asian countries seeing action in the tournament.
An airfare worth P610,000 will surely sent the team to East Timor, however, the group only came through with P33,150 from kind hearted donors plus while the city council has pledged P100,000.
