Malaysia to play Chinese Super League clubs or Philippines before taking on North Korea
Ahead of Malaysia's 2019 Asian Cup Group B third round qualifying match against North Korea, head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee has revealed that the travelling worries him more than the match itself.
Malaysia will open their qualifying campaign away to the hermit kingdom on March 28, and the travelling arrangement has given him concern.
"I feel that in terms of the match, it is not too tricky. It is the travelling that is a little complicated, as we are not too familiar with the country.
"But then again I don't think we'll be facing any problems as many other national teams have played away matches there," admitted Kim Swee when met by the press following the national team press conference on Friday.
According to Kim Swee, there are two plans regarding his team's preparations for the match.
His first plan is to play a friendly against the Philippines sometime before the 28th, and travel to North Korea from there.
"...there are flights to North Korea from there (the Philippines).
"...if we manage to secure a friendly match against the Philippines, (after the friendly) we'll immediately travel to Pyongyang. That means we'll be in North Korea for one week," said Kim Swee.
His second plan would be for his men to play test matches against Chinese Super League sides.
"If the friendly against the Philippines does not materialise, I have plans for the team to take on Chinese Super League clubs in test matches, either in Beijing or Shanghai.

Fernando, Alquiros: The time to make history is now on the Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers

MANILA -- For Belay Fernando and Natasha Alquiros, the time to make Filipina football history is now.
This is what two of the leading ladies of the game said about the draw made on the AFC Women's Asian Cup qualifiers.
Both ladies were in Rizal Memorial Stadium last Tuesday for the AFC Champions League playoff which was won by Global over S-League's Tampines Rovers, in which they shared their views on the women's national team's good luck of the draw when they were grouped by tournament hosts Jordan, qualifying hosts Tajikistan, Iraq and United Arab Emirates in Group A when they kick off the qualifiers on April 3.
But for the Loyola team manager, who also plays in the backline for Green Archers United, echoed her club teammate Marielle Benitez and other player's buzzing excitement when they see that they ranked higher than them but she admitted that there are some concerns with regards to the build-up to their next match, especially after not playing a single match in 2016.
"I think it's very exciting. It's really exciting when you see the opponent and you ranked higher and you feel like you have a good chance. But of course there is a lot of hard work that gets in. The schedule's really tricky because it's the same time as the UAAP, and I'm not sure if there's enough time to assess the overseas-based players to come in again so it's gonna be a tough time for the head coach," Fernando said during half time of Global's win over the Stags.
The Hiraya winger agreed to Fernando's sentiments and as a veteran of several international tournaments back when they were callled the Malditas, it all boiled down to the cooperation between the PFF and the UAAP, since the qualifiers will be played in the middle of the UAAP season and will also hit the holy week.
"I feel that it's always the time to make history for women's football especially because in terms of rankings we have a very good chance. But again it will all depend on the preparation, because it is the key. We were lucky enough to get the draw but we can't just be lucky and do everything at the last minute," said the strong-worded Alquiros who was the public address announcer that night.

ACL 2017 Preliminary Stage 2: Brisbane Roar 6-0 Global FC
Brisbane: Australia’s Brisbane Roar edged closer to a spot in this season’s AFC Champions League Group Stage after beating Global FC 6-0 in a one-sided Preliminary Stage 2 qualifier on Tuesday.
Four goals from Brandon Borrello and a brace from Manuel Arana saw the A-League side breeze past their ASEAN opponents to set up an eagerly anticipated Play-off clash with Chinese heavyweights Shanghai Shenhua on February 8.
Following the defeat, Global, who beat Singapore’s Tampines Rovers last week to set up the clash with Brisbane, will now compete in the AFC Cup where they have been drawn in Group F.
Brisbane wasted little time in opening the scoring at the Brisbane Stadium, Australia U23 international Borrello firing home on 12 minutes, before doubling his account in the 26th minute with a neat finish following fine approach work from Corey Brown.
Worse was to come for Global when Borrello completed his hat-trick on the half-hour mark and Spanish import Arana registered his first of the game with half-time approaching.
Brisbane continued to dominate after the break, and the Australian outfit duly extended their lead even further courtesy of Arana’s strike on 65 minutes.
The prolific Borrello then completed the scoring ten minutes from time to leave his side 90 minutes away from a spot in this season’s AFC Champions League Group Stage.
