Stallion bucks last-second scare, downs Kaya

MANILA--Balut Doctora's goal appeared to have sufficed for Stallion in their UFL clash with Kaya.
The three-time champs, however, made it interesting at the death.
The 2013 winners survived one final stand from the league's winningest franchise to escape with a 1-0 victory at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Sunday night.
Doctora displayed his veteran smarts in the 25th minute by beating Matt Acton and slotting what would be the only goal of the match.
However, Stallion only walked out of the woods after staving off Kaya's late push.
With about five seconds left in the game, Aly Borromeo almost spoiled Roland Sadia's clean sheet as the Kaya skipper's header went high past the Stallion keeper, but the ball hit the post and Robert Mendy's second serving took a deflection before the ball went straight to the goalie.
It was Stallion's first win of the league season, putting them back in the early title picture following two straight defeats.

Global wards off Loyola Sparks, solidifies UFL lead

MANILA, Philippines – Daisuke Sato struck early as Global FC held off Loyola Meralco Sparks FC in a clash of contenders, 1-0, to firm up its hold of the lead in the UFL League tournament at Rizal Memorial Stadium Saturday night.
Sato eluded multiple defenders before sending it home at the 11th minute to give Global the cushion for its fourth straight victory at the expense of fancied Loyola Meralco for a league-leading 12 points.
The Sparks, who turned up the heat on offense in the second half with ace Phil Younghusband coming off the bench in his first game out of sick bay, suffered their maiden setback after a 2-0 start and shared second spot with idle JP Voltes (six points).
Global captain Misagh Bahadoran lauded his teammates for staying focused and relentless in the midst of a tight schedule this week marred by a burglary at their locker rooms last Thursday.
“Great performance even though we had three games in a week and we lost our phones and wallets two days before the game. The guys showed how professional and hardworking they are both inside and outside the pitch,” said Bahadoran.
Sparks defender Anton del Rosario suffered an injury in the same sequence where Sato knocked in the marginal goal for Global in the first half. Global nearly doubled the lead when a penalty kick was awarded but Ivan Petrovic sent it wide.
The Sparks came out more aggressive in the second half but James Younghusband, Simon Greatwich and Alvaro Castiella didn’t hit the target. Phil Younghusband, who last saw action in the Cup, was unexpectedly sent in and energized the team but still the Sparks couldn’t buy the equalizer.
Meanwhile, Nate Burkey fired a hat- trick as Ceres La Salle FC picked up its first win via a 6-0 drubbing of Manila Nomads.
Burkey found the back of the net at the second, 14th and 86th minutes to lead the scorching attack that also saw Orman Okunaiya (44’), Bienve Marañon (79’), and Marvin Angeles (70’) joining the scoring fray.

Global fc and Ceres Fc in Singapore Cup
SINGAPORE, 8 MAY 2016: The Football Association of Singapore is pleased to announce that the preliminary round of the RHB Singapore Cup 2016 will begin on Thursday 26 May with Home United facing Hougang United FC at Bishan Stadium. The last match of the preliminary round will see invited Filipino team Ceres La Salle FC playing against the Garena Young Lions on Sunday 29 May at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

Hat trick for Gallardo as Ceres tops AFC Cup 2016 Group E Qualifier
Spanish striker Adrian Gallardo scored a hat trick last night as Ceres-La Salle Football Club demolished Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club from Bangladesh, 5-0, to finish on top in Group E of the AFC Cup 2016 at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City.
A tap-in in the 9 th minute following a blast from Bienvenido Marañon a couple of minutes earlier allowed Gallardo to set the tone for Ceres' domination against the visiting Bangladeshi squad.
Gallardo registered his second goal and Ceres' third in the 57 th minute off a pass from Patrick Reichelt. Seven minutes later, he completed the hat trick and registered his 8 th goal in the tournament with the trademark “Adrian strike” as Ceres pulled away, 4-0.
Reichelt sealed the win in the 70 th minute as he sent the ball into the net after receiving a pass from Gallardo.
“We had a good game…we are very happy as we finished on top of the group. We made history as the first Philippine team to advance in the next round,” Ceres head coach Franklin Muescan said.
Everything boils down to how well the team prepared for the tournament as Muescan thanked team owner Leo Rey Yanson for his support during the post-match press conference.
Lack of preparation was the reason why Sheikh Jamal went down nil-5 against Ceres, their head coach Shafiqul Islam Manik said.
Traveling 24 hours from Dhaka to Bacolod City after completing a tournament in Bangladesh took its toll on the players.
“This was the worst match we had after playing six games in the tournament. We are not prepared…the players are tired going out there playing for 90 minutes after travelling for more than 20 hours,” coach Manik added.
The Bangladeshi squad arrived in Bacolod City late Monday afternoon barely 24 hours before the match.
“In this kind of tournament, you need a good preparation and we did not have that. It's not excuse for losing but that is our excuse,” the Sheikh Jamal coach said.
Meanwhile, Ceres will play the knock-out game in the Round of 16 against South China (Hongkong ) on May 24 at the Panaad pitch.
Muescan said among their problems are the accumulated yellow cards and the tight schedule in the UFL League.
“It will be hard four us. We have several games lined up in the UFL before May 24 and need to rest our players,” Muescan said.*NAB
