PFF launches 2nd Women's tournament

The Philippine Football Federation today launched the PFF Women’s Invitational Cup 2015 in a press conference held at the PFF House of Football in Pasig City.

Now on its 2nd year, the all ladies tournament will be held from 9 August to 20 September, 2015 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium and newly-constructed artificial football pitch in City of Binan.

The 10 participating teams were divided into two groups through an official draw. In Group A are Far Eastern University Women’s Team (defending champion), Green Archers United Football Club, Ateneo de Manila University Women’s Team, University of the Philippines Women’s Team –Y and Sikat FC . In Group B are Chelsea FC SS Ladies, Dela Salle University Women’s Team, University of the Philippines Women’s Team-X, Lady Tamaraw FC, and University of Santo Tomas Women’s Team. The teams are composed of both current and former varsity and national players.

The Official Draw was graced by Senator Pia Cayetano who expressed her strong support for the promotion of football, particularly women’s football. Stating that she herself is a “soccer mom”, she believes that football is a sports appropriate to the built and height of Filipinos, adding that “as a policy, we should focus on sports where we innately have an advantage, or at the very least do not have a disadvantage.”

PFF President Mariano Araneta emphasized the importance of women’s football in PFF’s thrust, noting that it sets aside 15% of funds received from FIFA and AFC for Women Football. Aside from this tournament, PFF is also conducting for the second year in a row a nationwide implementation of an Under-14 Girl’s competition in all the PFF provincial football associations. He noted the timeliness of promoting women’s football given the success of the recent FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 held in Canada.

PFF General Secretary Atty. Ed Gastanes clarified that unlike last year’s edition which was a 9- a side tournament, this year’s edition is 11-a side competition at 90-minute per match.

Tournament Commissioner is Ernie Nierras while Tournament Chairman is Cyril Dofitas. A Technical Study Group headed by National Women’s Team Head Coach Letecia Bautista will be observing all the games to scout for possible talents that may be included in the national pool for next year’s international competitions.

In the meantime Australia as expected, ran the Philippines ragged with an 8-2 beating in the game that was played earlier.

The decision by Australian coach Ufuk Talay to rest key players gave the Philippines a more fighting chance at the start when John Roberts opener after just five minutes was cancelled out by Jelani Borbon eight minutes later.

Roberts then gave the advantage to Australia once again in the 22^nd minute following a mad scramble only for Fidel Victor Tacardon to give the Philippines their second equaliser two minutes later.

The change for Ryan Yates in place of Andrew Visciglio gave Australia more bite at the centre of the park and from then on, they never looked back as they went on to pile the goals with Roberts adding two more in the 28th and 43^rd minute.

The remainder of the goals were scored by Dylan Ryan in the 31^st minute, Rahmat Akbari (70th), Marc Moric (79^th) and Lachlan Brook (87^th).

Following the completion of matches in Group B tonight, the semi-finals matches will be played in two days at the National Olympic Stadium.

The semi-finals fixtures will see Laos taking on Myanmar in the first game while Australia will entertain Thailand in the second tie.

UFL appeals committee decision could decide the final standings in UFL.

Stallion Fc , Kaya , Pachanga Diliman and Ceres Fc have protested to UFL, that Minegishi and Otomo from Global Fc are ineligble to play as filipinos in UFL.

"Did the UFL already come out with a decision regarding the allegations that Global FC fielding 2 ineligible players in the ongoing UFL League and Cup and submitted falsified documents to make it appear that 2 jap players are Filipino citizens."

"The UFL Appeals Committee has established that Global FC is responsible for using a falsified document and decided to expel Global FC from the competition in addition to a fine. Initially the decision of the Appeals Committee appeared to be in compliance with the FIFA Disciplinary Code EXCEPT THAT GLOBAL WAS BEING EXPELLED FROM THE UFL CUP AND NOT FROM THE UFL LEAGUE WHEREIN THE VIOLATIONS OCCURRED. Moreover, no deduction of points will be applied where the presence of Otomo on the pitch during a match would make him the 6th foreign player."

Trigo keeps clean sheet as Loyola ends UFL season with rout of GAU -

MANILA--Tomas Trigo rode on his momentum of their last match against Global as he kept a clean sheet to lead Loyola into a season-ending 4-0 win over Green Archers United in the first game of a UFL doubleheader at the Rizal Memorial Stadium early Saturday evening.

Goals by Brad Grayson, Simon Greatwich, Graham Caygill and skipper Phil Younghusband complements the Trigo shutout as Simon McMenemy’s Sparks impose everything on to the hapless Archers side, which ended their season on a four-match winless streak after winning their first four matches in the second round. With the win, the Sparks also achieved a season sweep for the first time since 2012.

Pascual will have to rue his makeshift backline for his worst performance against a top five side as he conceded nine goals already in his last three matches between the sticks.

Grayson shoved the Sparks ahead in the 18th minute when he converted on Adam Mitter’s header to smash it from close range.

Fifteen minutes later, Greatwich doubled the advantage after he latched on to the cross of the younger Younghusband from the right wing.

And before half time, the Archers had a chance to reduce the deficit in half before when Robert Lopez Mendy was fouled by Trigo in the box. But the midfielder missed penalty when he clanked his spot kick off the post and out.

Nine minutes into the restart, the Azkals skipper surely made Dolfo Alicante and his men pay with the missed penalty, as he made it 3-0. Phil outsmarted Paolo after he received a cross from his older brother James.

Grayson became the provider as he assisted Caygill for a tap-in to put the full-time score eleven minutes from the final whistle.

The Sparks ended their season with 35 points and will hope that Kaya will force at least a draw against Global to cement their runner up finish.

On the other hand, the Archers will end outside of the top five for the second time in three seasons after finishing with 24 points and will might be ten points adrift of the top five with Stallion having two more games in hand.
