Queen City hopes to extend streak in UFL Cup

CEBU Queen City United (CQCU) head coach Mario Ceniza hopes his team 
can extend its winning streak and clinch the top spot of Group C as it takes
 on winless Agila FC in the UFL Cup tonight at the Emperador Stadium.

“We already advanced to the next round. But we would want to finish at the
 top of the group, the winner’s half, so that we won’t face the top teams in
 the other groups,” Ceniza told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.

CQCU faces Agila FC in its last match of the group stage at the Emperador
 Stadium in Bonifacio Global City at 9 p.m. after an impressive 4-1 win over 
defending champions Stallion FC last Oct. 20.

Ceniza expects his team to perform the same way they did in that match 
against Agila FC.

“We are looking at attacking the flanks because those are the weak areas 
according to our scouting report. However, we will still have the same game
 plan we had in our last game,” said Ceniza, referring to his strategy of
 controlling the midfield, which he believes is
 the strength of his team.

CQCU had an impressive first match in the UFL Cup, crushing the
 Philippine Air Force (PAF), 3-0, before earning a draw with Bright Star FC,
 2-2.

CQCU along with PAF and Stallion FC are off to the Round of 16.

Other clubs that have advanced to the next round are Pachanga Diliman FC,
 Manila Jeepney FC, Kaya FC, Union Internacional Manila, Global FC, 
Green Archers and Loyola FC.

On the other hand, the fate of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF)-
Smart National Club Championship Group E match between CQCU 
and Global FC is still undetermined.

“There is still no date or venue. It is a sensitive issue and there are
 factors to consider,” said Ceniza. “We are ready to face them. 
We have no problem facing them.”

CQCU was supposed to enter the next round after beating Hijos FC, 8-1,
 last month but Global FC, who was earlier disqualified, won its appeal.

UFL cancels first provincial match in Cebu

The United Football League has cancelled what would have been its first official match outside Metro Manila after deciding not to push through the Cup match between the Loyola Meralco Sparks and Green Archers United Globe in Cebu City next week.

UFL Head of Football Operations Ritchie Gannaban told InterAKTV that the match on November 10 was cancelled due to the aftermath of the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck Central Visayas last October. The tiff between Loyola and Green Archers was supposed to serve as an appetizer for the biggest football tournament in Cebu, the Aboitiz Football Cup.

“The match will not push through. Aboitiz decided to postpone the opening of the Aboitiz Cup due to earthquake related events,” Gannaban said.

The match would have marked the first time that the UFL had a provincial match especially in Cebu, one of the football hotbeds in the country. The league has also flirted with the idea of playing some matches outside Metro Manila last season.

A Cebu-based club, Cebu Queen City United, also currently plays in the UFL Cup as a guest team after taking a leave of absence last season.

The squad, which had an impressive third-place finish in the Division Two in 2012, didn’t participate in the Cup and League competitions last season following the UFL’s denial of its request of playing some matches in its hometown.

Younghusbands, Caligdong may miss UFL match in Cebu

PHILIPPINE Azkals frontliners Emilio "Chiefy" Caligdong of the Green Archers United Globe and James and Phil Younghusband of the Loyola Meralco Sparks FC might miss their bearing match in the ongoing United Football League (UFL) here at the Aboitiz Football Field on Nov. 10.

This after the Azkals are scheduled to fly to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a friendly match on Nov. 9 at the Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

But even without the Azkals stars, the bearing match will still push through to highlight the opening of the 16th season of the Aboitiz Football Cup, according to Cebu Football Association's (CFA) grassroots committee chairman Raffy Musni in an interview with Cebu Daily News .

But Musni said the CFA will still be waiting for the final announcement from the UFL if Caligdong and the Younghusbands will play in the said match.

"With the Azkals' upcoming schedules, it seems that Caligdong and the Younghusbands could miss playing for their teams but we have to wait for the announcement from UFL regarding the development of the three football stars' appearance in the opening of the Aboitiz Football Cup," Musni said.

The Philippine team is also set to face India on Nov. 15.

The Loyola Meralco Sparks recently won via a lopsided victory over the Blue Guards FC, 33-0, last Wednesday at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig City. The Green Archers FC also defeated the Blue Guards last Oct. 20.

Azkals news , no friendly for Nov 19

Azkals will be leaving for UAE on November 5.

Azkals is playing a friendly against UAE in Abu Dhabi on Nov 9, but Global FC is playing Singapore Cup against Balestier Khalsa (third place match) 7.30 pm on November 7.

Seems that Global Fc 9 players in Azkals squad will be going to UAE after Singapore Cup match.

Azkals will be playing  a friendly against India on FIFA match day November 15 .

There will be no friendly on FIFA match day November 19.

UAAP football matches to shown live on Studio 23

COLLEGE football debuts on live television as Season 76 of the UAAP kicks off on November 23 at the Far Eastern University-Diliman pitch.

Studio 23 will air the 3 p.m. match between FEU, last season’s third-placer, and National University, a first in Philippine college football.

A triple bill actually ushers in Season 76 football with the non-televised clashes between De La Salle and University of Santo Tomas at 10 a.m. and last season's runner-up University of the Philippines and University of the East at 1 p.m.

Defending champion Ateneo drew an opening-day bye and will face FEU at 3 p.m. on November 26.         

Bannered by ace striker Jess Melliza, who scored a league-record 22 goals last season, the Tamaraws are one of the Blue Eagles' biggest threats this season.         

Ateneo will try to retain the title with Season 75 Most Valuable Player and Best Goalkeeper Nick O’Donnell and midfielder Val Calvo out of the roster due to academics. The Blue Eagles will now count on veterans Yu Murayama, Mikko Mabanag, Jico Noel and Carlo Liay, last season's top rookie.         

Also among the teams to watch are the UP Fighting Maroons, who dominated in the last few years thanks to the brillant efforts of national under-23 mainstay Jinggoy Valmayor.         

The Green Archers and the Bulldogs are also expected to contend for the crown, while the Growling Tigers and the Red Warriors hope to spring surprises.         

Also to be aired on Studio 23 are the UST-Ateneo match on November 29, UP-Ateneo clash on December 6, Ateneo-De La Salle game on December 13 and De La Salle-FEU showdown on December 23.         

Women's action opens on November 24 with Ateneo facing UST at 1 p.m. and De La Salle battling UP at 3 p.m.  Titleholder FEU, which drew a bye, opens its season against Ateneo on November 27 at 1 p.m.
