PHILIPPINE Football Federation (PFF) confirmed that Park Panaad and Stadium will play host to the 2016 AFC Cup Group E match between Ceres-La Salle FC and Tampines Rovers of Singapore at 7 p.m. on April 12.
In a communication furnished by the PFF to Ceres FC and Negros Occidental Football Association, it confirmed that the match set at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila will be played at Panaad Park and Stadium, the original turf.
The action made by the Provincial Government of resetting the annual Panaad sa Negros Festival from its original schedule of April 11-15 to April 16-22 paved way for the organizers to look into the issue.
“Moving the game to Panaad Stadium is a very big boost for Ceres FC considering that the team will be playing in front of our home crowd,” said Ceres FC administrator Nicolas Golez.
During Ceres FC’s match against Selangor FA of Malaysia last month, Negrense football fans flocked and filled the 15,000-seater stadium.
Football observers lauded the huge support by local fans during the match
considered to be the biggest crowd since the 2011 Philippines-Mongolia face-off in the AFC Challenge Cup also played at Panaad.
In a related development, Bacolod City Mayor and Fifa Marketing and TV Committee member Monico Puentevella is set to make another appeal before the AFC to re-schedule the match between Ceres FC and Bangladesh’s Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club from May 10 to a week later as the national election is on May 9.
