MANILA, Philippines—Far Eastern University notched its third straight UAAP Women’s football title after dispensing University of the Philippines, 2-1, in the finals on Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Alina Rose Araneta took advantage of the rushing Nicole Adlawan to head home a goal after a nifty breakaway from the UP backline in the 67th minute to give FEU a 2-0 lead.
Lady Maroon Marie Nave-Huff found the back of the net in the first minute of added time (90+1) to make it 2-1, but it was a sorry consolation for UP which was on its backfoot for most of the match.
An overjoyed Marnelli Dimzon said her team gave it their all against the bigger Lady Maroons in the ultra competitive Finals.
“I’m so happy, this is the first time in the history of FEU that the Women’s Football Team won a three-peat,” Dimzon said.
“UP, their strength is their physical and mental advantages but in terms of the quality of play we matched up against them equally.”
Alesa Dolina struck early for FEU in the 22nd minute with a long-range volley that Adlawan couldn’t save.
Dimzon said her the Lady Tamaraws just gave it their all with a “no pain, no gain” mindset.
“Their attitude was ‘all heart,’ they gave it their all.”

FEU had more elbow shots on target. thank you abs cbn for the replays. that's how you win, kids! train hard, play hard, just throw your cheap shots when the ref is not watching, and pray - you'll surely win!
