GLOBAL FC continues its transformation to a more potent offensive machine as it squares off with upset-conscious Socceroo on Thursday night in the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
Already an offensive powerhouse in the past, the Azkals-powered Global made some key changes in the last few weeks to help the squad harness its full potential.
The evolution was evident last Thursday when the second-running side walloped Philippine Army, 9-1, behind a refined passing game to the delight of its fans.
And the men in yellow and blue are keen to keep moving forward in the 7:30 p.m. encounter against the Division 1 rookies as they try keep in step with leader Loyola Meralco, which is just a point clear on top.
“I hope we can continue building because we’re never satisfied,” Global coach Leigh Manson said. “And that’s no disrespect to (any team). We’re not satisfied with our own performance.”
The Scottish mentor, who now has wingers Curt Dizon and Daisuke Sato, defender German Rodriguez, midfielder Raul Martinez, and striker Nap Bustillo at his disposal, hinted of “possibly one or two” more recruits before the transfer window ends at the end of the month.
However, Global, which released Polish skipper Ben Starosta and promising Angeles twins Marwin and Marvin, should be wary of a dangerous Socceroo side that stunned defending champion Stallion also last Thursday.
In arguably the biggest upset of the season, Socceroo overhauled two two-goal deficits against the Stallions before showing admirable resolve down the stretch to further move away from cellar-dwelling Pasargad.
Socceroo is running eighth with nine points, five clear of relegation zone.
“It’s crucial for us to get away from the bottom spot,” said newcomer Diego Barrera, who didn’t waste any time to make his mark by scoring a hat-trick. “We just gotta keep working and stay away from that spot so we can keep Socceroo in first division.”
Earlier, Kaya FC, currently behind Loyola and Global, tries to stay alive in the title race as it faces the sixth-running Troopers at 5:15 p.m.
