Azkals test new talents in Indonesia friendly

The Philippines, hoping to build a stronger core of talents, gets a chance to test new players when it visits Indonesia for an international friendly on Aug. 14 at Manahan Stadium in Solo, Central Java.
National team manager Dan Palami hinted at calling up the standouts of the PH Under-23 side to suit up for the Azkals, whose next major tournament won’t come until March next year in the AFC Challenge Cup in the Maldives.
Among those in the short list of candidates are goalkeeper Patrick Deyto and midfielders Paolo Bugas and Mark Hartmann, who hasn’t played for the national team since September 2011 in the Long Teng Cup.
Deyto, a former La Salle player, is considered one of the best homegrown goalkeepers, while Bugas and Hartmann were impressive for the Under-23 side in its clash with the United Football League All-Stars last month.
“We want to test some new players, who could also help us in the future,” said Palami. “The friendly is a good chance to develop talents.”
The Under-23 players are preparing for the Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar, although the Philippine Olympic Committee and the Philippine Sports Commission have yet to approve their stint in the biennial games.
Palami said only a couple of Europe-based Azkals—Angel Guirado and defender Rob Gier, who skippered the squad in the 1-0 triumph over Hong Kong last June—will be called up.
It will be the fourth meeting between the Philippines and Indonesia since 2010, when the Azkals made the Suzuki Cup semifinals only to bow to the Mera Putih, 0-2, on aggregate.
The Azkals and Mera Putih battled to a tense 2-2 draw in Manila in June 2012 that saw three players get red cards.
Chieffy Caligdong and Phil and James Younghusband will still lead the Azkals, who have steadily improved their Fifa ranking in the past two years.
The Azkals are now perched at No. 144, the second-ranked team in the region behind Thailand.

  1. Only Gier and Angel? So who's gonna partner Gier at the back? De Jong? Carli? Fuck that!!

And the team is gonna be "led" by that non leader Caligtwatface? Which means Christiaens is gonna play LB once again... what a waste of talent!

    1. I think you should enroll for a coaching course so you will know why coaches tends to do this during friendly games. You're no the coach so stop acting like one.

How typical... the smart asses like you have come out with the same shit yet again!!

Seriously do people like you have any other replies than that?!? The, "why do you become a coach" or "why don't you go to Palami and apply to be the coach" BS!!!

Only in the Philippines you'll get this type of shit!! This is also part of the reason why the Philippines will NEVER be a proper footballing nation... because of dumb fucks like you!!

Let me try to put this in a simple way so mongs like you can actually understand. There are some fans/supporters that like certain things while others think otherwise. Unfortunately, there are dumb fucks like you who just bends over and take things up the ass as they come. In this case, Christiaens being used a LB is a waste of talent, yes he's capable of playing there but that doesn't mean he should continue playing there all the time. Same thing goes for Caligshitface! He's seen as a "leader" but it's clear he's not one and it's a disgrace that he continues to wear the armband!

For arguments sake, let's say Weiss names a starting XI with everybody out of position and the fans voice their frustrations. What are you gonna do? Say the same shit about enrolling in a coaching course and that we're not the coach?!?! Idiot!!!

Yes, there will for the most part be things that people like me won't like regarding the coaches decisions and we can't do anything about it because I'm not or any other fan isn't the coach. Does that prevent me or anyone else from voicing there opinions/frustrations? NO IT DOESN'T!!! So again, STFU with your broken record type of replies!!!!

    5. A frustrated player and a frustrated coach wanting to heard and always bashing whoever is against his will. Here's my suggestion , if you really want to be heard then confront Palami or Weiss about your feeling or go to any TV station and air your feelings against them. Cause if you are just content commenting here then you are really a FOOL... And I will get back to you and say STFU looser..

Yet again another typical response!! "Go to a TV station"... LMAO!!!

Of course dumb fucks like you don't understand shit!! At the same you like take everything as it comes without any complaint, in other words you love to bend over and get ass fucked. No need to waste anymore time with you. I'll leave it at that!

    8. Tama naman yung thread starter. If they want to experiment, why give the captains armband to Caligdingdong once again? Its time to get rid of that crap player.

Agree also that Christiaens is wasted on LB. If they want to experiment, put him on LM and leave Caligdingdong behind in Manila. Or Barotac Nuevo. And bring an under 23 LB to play in that position.

Carli is an excellent RB so I want to see him in play in that position. Maybe bring in Barbasso to partner with Gier at the back.

But lets get rid of Caligdingdong.

  5. It looks like Hartmann's move to Global is paying off. All of a sudden he is being considered for the national team again.

  6. Haha! Go AZKALS! PUSO!!

  7. Its a ploy by palami to say the team need foreign fil to win.

  8. what ploy? Hartmann's inclusion? Mark happens to be one of the excellent players of the UFL, it doesnt have anything to do with your imagined theory..
