Global were crowned winners in the 2013 Kia Cup Open Division held at the Alabang Country Club, Saturday.
Global swept the group stages of the tournament, winning over Phil. Air Force B, Nomads A, Iligan Archangels and Greenstars FC, to advance to the knockout stages.
In the quarterfinals, Global needed a late goal from Izo El-Habbib to force a penalty shootout with Phil. Air Force A. Roland Sadia produced a nice save in the shootout to send Global to the semis.
Mark Hartmann scored two goals and Marwin Angeles contributed another against DLSU A in the semifinals. The match ended at 4-2 to book Global a place in the final.
The final match also ended in a penalty shootout against Green Archers United after Floriano Pasilan scored first in the first half before El-Habbib equalized in the 2nd half.
Sadia saved 2 penalty kicks in the shootout to give Global it's first Kia Cup Open Divison title.
El-Habbib also won the Most Valuable Player award of the Open Division.
