Japan toys with RP XI in Asian U16

POWERHOUSE Japan lived up to its pre-tournament billing as the team to beat in the ongoing Asian U16 Football Championship Group E Qualifiers 2010 at the Panaad Sports & Recreational Park pitch Saturday.
Japan team displayed precision passing and excellent command of the game as they blanked a tentative Philippines squad, 12-0, before a largely-awed crowd that came to find out for themselves the kind of stuff the Filipino booters were made of.

No. 14 Hayakawa tallied five goals while No. 9 Takumi Minamoto and No. 44 Takuya Iwanami added three apiece while No. 12 Shinjo Kosuke chipped in with one goal to complete the rout over the hapless home team. In Saturday’s second match, Indonesia and Bangladesh played to a scoreless draw giving the Negrense fans an idea of what to expect in the next few days in this Asian Football confederation (AFC) event being staged here in cooperation with the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) represented here by general secretary Cyril Dofitas and local stakeholders led by local organizing chairman Rafael Lizares, president of the Executive Village Football Club. Saturday’s opening matches were witnessed by a packed crowd at the Panaad main grandstand, including former PFF president lawyer Rene Adad, who braved the intermittent drizzle just to cheer for the RP squad that included in its roster four Negros Occidental standouts—Gerald Mark Layumas of San Carlos City, and Allen Shane Belera, Sidney Angelo Magbanua and Melecio Manuel Mentor of Victorias City.
