Melliza insists four-goal showing not signal sent to Dooley after Azkals snub

By Ivan Saldajeno

BIÑAN--Jhan-Jhan Melliza was arguably the most notable player who missed the cut for the Azkals' pool for their ACQ match against Yemen on Tuesday.

Entering the Azkals break, the Laguna striker blasted eight goals in total.

As the PFL returned to play this past weekend, the former FEU star added four to his goal count in just one night, lifting his team to a 5-0 mauling of Ilocos at the Biñan Football Stadium.

Melliza, however, told Dugout Philippines that his double brace was not meant to persuade national team coach Thomas Dooley to take him in.

"Wala naman po yun (the snub). Supported ko naman po ang Azkals," he said.

He even called on his fans to trust Dooley's system.

"Suportahan na lang po natin kung ano talaga ang plano ni Coach Dooley," Melliza continued.

However, he expressed his readiness should a future national team call-up ensues.

"Kung mabigyan ako ng opportunity, iga-grab ko yun," Melliza further said.
