MANILA--Global Cebu and Stallion Laguna will have to wait a few more days before they can push through with their match.
The PFL announced the postponement of the scheduled showdown between the two sides at the Rizal Memorial Stadium hours before their scheduled 4 p.m. kickoff on Wednesday.
"We regret to inform you that today's match between Global Cebu FC and Stallion Laguna FC has been cancelled. The league will post updates with regards to the match in good time," the league said in a statement.
However, both sides said that they still pushed through with the pregame warm-ups and were ready to play until they were informed of the postponement.
"Global Cebu and Stallion Laguna regret to inform all stakeholders that our match scheduled today did not push through, in spite of both clubs present in the venue and ready to play. Furthermore, both clubs were present at all pre-match activities--match coordination meeting and pre-match press conference included," both clubs said in a joint statement.
The match was originally scheduled for next Wednesday but was moved a week earlier to give way to Cebu's RHB Singapore Cup showdown with Hougang.
However, the unavailability of the Cebu City Sports Center prompted both sides to have it instead at Rizal Memorial.
On the other hand, the other scheduled match for Wednesday, the Davao-Negros game in Tagum, pushed through as scheduled and is ongoing as of press time.
Rumors are the game was canceled due to stallions Laguna & Global Cebu not paying the franchise fee to the league yet
