K. RAJAGOBAL and Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin will be the Asean All Stars coach and team manager respectively for a charity match against Indonesia in Jakarta on May 11.
The match is an Asean Football Federation (AFF) initiative to raise funds for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan that struck the Philippines last year.
Five players from Malaysia were picked to represent the Asean All Stars. They are former AFF Cup top-scorer Safee Sali, Amri Yahyah, Safiq Rahim, Mahali Jasuli and national captain Aidil Zafuan Radzak, who all play for Darul Ta’zim,
The other players selected for the match are Vietnam’s Le Cong Vinh, Nguyen Anh Duc, Nguyen Van Quyet, Nguyen Minh Chau and Truong Dinh Luat.
They will report to Rajagobal and Hamidin for training two days before the match.
Rajagobal, 57, is regarded as one of the best coaches in the region, having led Malaysia to titles in the 2009 Laos Sea Games and the 2010 AFF Cup.
FAM general-secretary Hamidin was the team manager when Malaysia won the Sea Games gold in 2011.
“I am very happy to be reunited with Rajagobal and also honoured to be selected as the team manager.
“The match was finalised during a recent AFF meeting in Tokyo,” said Hamidin yesterday.
Former Thailand international Piyapong Pue On was AFF’s first choice to coach its team but he declined.
Rajagobal will be assisted by Kedah coach Tan Cheng Hoe.
With five Darul Ta’zim players in the Asean All Star squad, the club’s match against LionsXII, scheduled on May 13, has been moved to May 20 at Jalan Besar Stadium.
