Skidding Gilligan's vows comeback

Stallion Gilligan’s tries to atone for its mediocre outing the last time out as it tangles with Green Archers United at resumption today in the first division of the United Football League at the Rizal Memorial pitch.

Coming off a pair of 4-1 romps over defending champion Air Force Phoenix and fancied Loyola Meralco Sparks, the Stallions struggled against the Pasargad side, settling for a 1-1 draw in a match they were expected to dominate at the University of Makati field last week.

That dropped Stallion to second place with 10 points, two points behind the pacesetting Sparks of Phil and James Younghusband.

Korean striker Lee Joo Young and Ruben Doctora Jr. are expected to lead Stallion against the Archers in their 4 p.m. encounter.

Lee leads the tournament in goals scored with six, including a hat-trick in a 6-0 rout of Navy Red Juice last month at the UMak. The Younghusbands have four goals apiece while Doctora is running fourth with three.

In Division II action, Pachanga FC tangles with Cebu Queen City FC at 2 p.m., also at the Rizal pitch.

Pachanga shows the way with 12 points while Cebu booters are way down in the standings with four points.

In other second division matches, Lao FC (6 points) mixes it up with Lions Meltique Beef FC (1 point) at 3 p.m. at the Turf while Team Socceroo FC (7 points) takes on Diliman Victory Liner (10 points) at 4 p.m., also at the Turf.
