San Beda, Columbia advance into Smart Club semis

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Rizal-Smart San Beda FC and Columbia FC-Davao scored impressive 1-0 wins over their respective rivals to gain slots in the PFF-Smart Club Championships semifinals.

San Beda team captain David Franz Fornea tapped in the marginal goal in the 49th minute to follow up Phil Younghusband’s rebounded header against Laos FC-Leyte.

In the football action that took place at the Don Mariano Pelaez Memorial Sports Complex, FC-Leyte was reduced to 9 men after the ejection of William Diaz and Nigerian Remy Alain-Sery.

Diaz and Sery were issued 2 yellow cards each following a highly physical encounter between 4 of their teammates and 6 San Beda players.

Younghusband was also among those who incurred yellow cards.
“They (Laos) were not sporting,” Younghusband added.

“Certainly it wasn’t pretty,” echoed his elder brother James, who himself got knocked down from behind in the middle of the second half.

At the Barotac Nuevo pitch In Iloilo, Columbia’s Nur Mentang scored a long shot in the 33rd minute to beat Pachanga.

  1. I dont think Columbia FC is qualified yet? If Stallion win against Columbia Fc in last match and Pachanga beat Baguio United FC , it will be goal difference that decide which teams to semifinals

  3. Columbia FC (Davao) needs a draw or a win to advance to the semifinals.
If Columbia FC loses to Stallion this Saturday, Pachanga FC has a chance to advance to the semis if they beat Baguio by at least 4 goals or more. If less than 4 goals, then Columbia Davao will advance to the semis via higher Goal Difference (GD).

Yes, Columbia FC Davao players are all local.

  6. Proud dabawenyo kahit local players lahat ay tintalo yung ibang clubs, I think they'll beat stallions kc yung tumalo sa kanila na Pachangga ay tinalo rin ng Columbia..............

  7. To buboy:

The above article is inaccurate because Columbia FC hasn't qualified yet. It needs at least a draw with Stallion FC in order to automatically qualify. If it loses to Stallion, there is a chance that Columbia won't qualify.

  8. And that happens if Columbia loses to Stallion and Pachanga beats Baguio by 3 goals or more.

  9. Iloilo won 3-0 over Davao and Pachanga is leading Baguio by a mile. Davao is eliminated if Pachanga wins even by just a goal.
