DeleteBukidnon 2-0 Cagayan de Oro , surprising win for Bukidnon
ReplyDeleteI watched the Bukidnon-CMOFA match, Jonny. It was played at the Valencia City pitch not at Malaybalay as mentioned.
DeleteBukidnon scored first from a set piece in the first half, 1-0. CMOFA won a penalty but had to retake it after a CMOFA player encroached into the area but on the second take the Bukidnon 'keeper read the shot well and saved.
In the second half a Bukidnon player took a tumble in the box from a weak challenge and a penalty was given, 2-0.
Do note that all the drama belied the fact that Bukidnon actually played very well and seemed the hungrier team.
Despite an early bright start, CMOFA seemed devoid of ideas as they struggled on the Valencia pitch which was more a gravel pit than a football pitch. Bukidnon bullied CMOFA around to the point where one of their players got sent off for a second yellow in the last few minutes.
Very interesting tactical set-ups:
CMOFA's 433 seemed to be an attempt to clog up the midfield to grind out a draw while Bukidnon often had a midfielder dropping so deep it looks like a 541 at times. What made Bukidnon's system work was that they always get numbers up very, very quickly. CMOFA on the other hand had slow centermidfielders who were reluctant to link up with their lone striker or at least support him with late runs. The inability of CMOFA to adjust and take more risks in the attacking third caused them the match.
Bukidnon was fluid and assertive in front of their home crowd while CMOFA lacked creativity and were reactive.
Good match. I enjoyed it. :)
Thanks for the match report Buddha ! You can find some pics from the pitch in that match on Facebook. Search for PFF U23 Suzuki Cup
