Joshua Beloya led the Ceres-University of St. La Salle – manned Negros Occidental Football Association (NOFA) squad to a 9-0 blast on the home-team Leyte Football Association last Monday in the ongoing Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Suzuki Cup Under 23 regional qualifying at the Leyte Sports Complex in Leyte.
Last year’s PFF-Suzuki U23 National Cup "Best Striker" Beloya scored 3 goals in their last away game. He opened the Negrense team offense in the early minute of the game to post a 1-nil advantage.
The host-team was not able to recover quickly on their defense as another goal by Azkals’ U23 mainstay Gerardo Valmayor was netted to tally a 2-nil lead.
In the middle of the match, Joel Bedia and J Baguioro scored NOFA’s third and fourth goals then followed by Valmayor’s second and the team’s fifth goal in the match.
Minutes away from the halftime whistle, Bedia scored his second and NOFA’s sixth goal to end the break, 6-nil.
In the resumption of the second half, Beloya remained offensively focused as he scored his second and third goals to give the Negros-Ceres squad an 8-0 advantage while John Marcellana sealed the match with his share of goal and the teams ninth in the game. NOFA is currently on top of the team standing after sweeping all its away games, making them the only unbeaten team in the regional qualifying.
"I am happy with the game’s outcome. We will start preparing for our home games to start on Saturday," Negros-Ceres head coach Freddie "Nene" Lazarito told Watchmen Daily Journal in a phone interview.
NOFA will be facing Negros Oriental Football Association on Saturday, April 21 at the Manuel Y. Torres Sports Complex in Bago City.
Also suiting up for the Negros-Ceres squad of team manager Leo Rey Yanson are Azkals’ U23 standout Reymark "Buboy" Fernandez, last year ‘Best Goalkeeper’ Robert Mendoza, second choice keeper Benito Rosalia, alternate keeper Jurex Replentes, Florence Panogaling, Jimmy Malalo-an, Florence Agraviador, Anthony Tongson, George Balceda, Alan Alfaro, Neil Ryan Lirio, Norman Selotorio, Feb Beneminito Baya, Archie Familiar, Ramoniño Aledro, Kent Guevarra, Joash Cabus, Bon Joevie Amanquiton, Chip Christian Robles and John Timothy Bolo.
